  3. Terrence "Punch" Henderson, SZA's longtime manager, explained why SZA, one of the ceremony's most-nominated artists, did not perform at Tuesday's awards show. When Ashanti and French Montana presented best R&B at Tuesday night’s MTV Video Music Awards, the category’s winner, SZA, was not present to pick up her Moon Person for “Shirt” — but she didn’t just skip the show for no reason, her manager revealed. SZA entered the Sept. 12 ceremony as one of the night’s most-nominated artists, with eight nods total, including video of the year (“Kill Bill”), best art direction (“Shirt”) and album of the year (SOS). Despite being one of the most omnipresent artists of the past year, however, SZA’s name was left off the list of nominees for artist of the year. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published Friday (Sept. 15), Terrence “Punch” Henderson, SZA’s longtime manager, said, “Obviously, she had one of the best years, if not the best year, of any artist at this point. I don’t see why she wouldn’t be nominated for artist of the year. It just really didn’t make any sense to me. It’s disrespectful.” SZA released SOS in December, and her critically lauded sophomore studio album has dominated 2023. The record has been present in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 nearly every week this year, spending 10 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 and ranking at No. 2 on Luminate’s 2023 Midyear Music Report. “Kill Bill,” the record’s breakout hit, topped the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 and spent months in the chart’s top 10. On Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, “Kill Bill” broke the record for most weeks spent at No. 1 (21 weeks). SOS also yielded the Hot 100 top 10 singles “Nobody Gets Me” (No. 10) and “Snooze” (No. 7), which reached the top 10 in its 35th week on the chart. Prior to the album’s release, two other singles hit the top 10: “Good Days” (No. 9) and “I Hate U” (No. 7). The VMA-winning “Shirt” peaked at No. 11 and topped both the Rhythmic and R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay charts. During a call about a potential SZA performance at the show, Punch says MTV “couldn’t give a clear answer as to why she wasn’t [nominated for artist of the year]. It was just, ‘Well, she’s nominated for all these other [awards].’” The nominees for artist of the year at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards were Beyoncé, Karol G, Shakira, Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj and eventual winner Taylor Swift. The nearly four-hour-long 2023 VMAs ceremony featured an overwhelming amount of performances, none of which included SZA — despite the initial efforts to have her grace the show’s stage. During one of those negotiations, “because there were people on [the call] about logistics for the show who didn’t have anything to do with [the nominations],” Punch said, “they ended up saying, ‘OK, well we could do another call.’” Nonetheless, MTV “didn’t want to discuss artist of the year, which to me was really a slap in the face,” he remarked. “Why wouldn’t she be nominated for artist of the year? Even with the other artists that were nominated for artist of the year, some of them were even off-cycle. They didn’t have an album out. I mean, no disrespect to them or anybody else; everybody’s great and all of that, but still, you can’t discredit what SOS has done and is currently doing,” Punch added. Three of the nominees — Doja Cat, Minaj and Shakira — had not released albums since the 2022 VMAs ceremony. Ultimately, MTV’s failure to provide an explanation for the snub and reach a resolution spurred Punch to pull SZA’s performance. “I figured, why go perform and do this if she’s not going to be respected to the highest level? So it was my call to actually pull out of the performance,” he explained. However, the Top Dawg Entertainment president noted that SZA is “a very sweet person and she’s not for all of the nonsense and the politics and the back-and-forth and all of that. So, our feelings might be a little different. “Ultimately, I felt it was disrespectful and I was very stern on that and influencing that,” Punch concluded. “If there’s any issues or backlash and all of that, I’m taking all of that.” Despite the VMAs kerfuffle, SZA is currently powering through the final leg of her SOS headlining arena tour. According to Billboard Boxscore, the tour has grossed $34.5 million and sold 238,000 tickets. On Friday (Sept. 15), the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter released two singles: a Justin Bieber-assisted acoustic reboot of “Snooze” and a highly anticipated Drake collaboration titled “Slime You Out.” Last week (Sept. 8), SZA announced a deluxe edition of SOS titled LANA at a surprise event at New York’s Brooklyn Navy Yard. The expanded version of her triple-platinum album will arrive “this fall.” SZA, an Academy Award-nominated songwriter, has earned eight top 10 hits on the Hot 100 from 40 career entries. On the Billboard 200, she has earned two top five albums: 2017’s Ctrl (No. 3) — which has spent a whopping 326 weeks on the ranking — and 2022’s SOS (No. 1). The revelation of SZA’s situation comes after another R&B artist — Grammy-nominated “On My Mama” singer Victoria Monét — revealed to fans that MTV told her team that it was “too early in [her] story” to perform at the VMAs. Monét is a three-time Grammy nominee with writing credits for a range of artists including Ariana Grande and BLACKPINK. She has also charted a pair of albums on the Billboard 200 and two songs on the Hot 100; Monét made her recording debut in 2014.
  4. "The bad boy of entertainment is getting the key to the city from the bad boy of politics!" the mayor said. Sean “Diddy” Combs got the key to New York City on Friday (Sept. 15), the same day that he released his first studio album in 17 years. “The bad boy of entertainment is getting the key to the city from the bad boy of politics!” Mayor Eric Adams said as he presented a giant key to Combs in Times Square. The entertainer thanked Adams and shouted, “Diddy finally has the key to the city!” Combs, 53, was born in New York City and raised in nearby Mount Vernon. His new album The Love Album – Off the Grid is his first solo studio project since 2006. It features nearly 30 guest artists including Mary J. Blige, Justin Bieber, H.E.R., Babyface, John Legend and Busta Rhymes. Diddy took the 2023 MTV VMAs stage in New Jersey on Sunday night to perform a career-spanning medley of hits and accept this year’s MTV Global Icon award. Accepting the moonperson, the Billboard cover star thanked the crowd and called the award “a dream come true for me — I grew up watching MTV like, ‘Man, I wish one day I could be up there,'” before starting the audience on a “Baaaad Boyyyyy” chant. 5. Gomez shared selfies with Swift, captioned with a lyric from Saweetie and Doja Cat's 'Best Friend.' Taylena alert! Selena Gomez showed off some sweet selfies with Taylor Swift on Saturday (Sept. 16). Gomez posted a pair of pictures on Instagram, pointing out in the caption that Swift is perpetually at the top of her game. “Thas my best frien -she a real bad,” Gomez wrote in a sweet Instagram update. The frame-worthy snapshots showed them enjoying time together by the sea, with smiles and kisses on cheeks. The photos were likely taken at Swift’s 4th of July party with her “neighborhood independent girlies,” including Gomez and Haim, since she’s wearing the same (now sold-out) Christy Dawn sundress in each set of pics. The “Single Soon” singer was likely quoting a line from Saweetie‘s feel-good ‘Best Friend’ feat. Doja Cat, which reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021, spending 30 weeks total on the chart. “Best Friend” has the two complimenting one another’s self-reliance, wealth and beauty in its verses: “I’ma hype her every time, that my motherf—in’ friend.” Gomez shared another picture with best friend Swift earlier in the week from the MTV VMAs, dryly commenting in an Instagram Story, “She looks stunning, I look constipated. Typical.” Both VMA winners served meme-worthy moments and reactions caught on camera during the awards ceremony — one of MTV’s audience cams seemed stuck on Swift with a drink in hand throughout — though Gomez might not have been that amused by the chatter concerning her expressions. “I will never be a meme again,” she wrote in an Instagram Story after the show. “I’d rather sit still than be dragged for being myself. Much love.” See their sunshiny summer selfies together below. View this post on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CxRKxinxnVV/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading
  6. The Only Murders in the Building star also vowed that she would "never be a meme again" after the 2023 MTV VMAs. If there’s one thing you can count on both Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift to deliver during an awards ceremony, it’s incredible reaction shots. But the pair was spotted in a candid moment together at the 2023 MTV VMAs that has even Gomez laughing. In a post to her Instagram Stories late Tuesday night (Sept. 12), Gomez shared a photo taken of her and her bestie Swift greeting each other during the ceremony at New Jersey’s Prudential Center. With the camera catching Gomez at an inopportune moment, the Only Murders in the Building star decided to make light of the funny face she made. “She looks stunning, I look constipated,” Gomez wrote under the photo. “Typical.” The candid moment with Swift was far from the only big reaction fans got to see from Gomez on Tuesday. Throughout the VMAs, the “Single Soon” singer was spotted making a face at Chris Brown’s name being announced and looking genuinely spooked during Olivia Rodrigo’s performance. After seeing the influx of reactions to her reactions from the evening, Gomez made a brief statement on her Instagram Stories, seemingly letting folks know that the viral moments were perhaps not all that funny to her. “I will never be a meme again,” she wrote. “I’d rather sit still than be dragged for being myself. Much love.” Meanwhile, Gomez’s friend Swift had a huge night at the 2023 VMAs. Along with being the most nominated artist of the evening with a whopping 11 nods, the “Anti-Hero” singer ended up taking home nine awards, as well as sweeping the top categories of video, artist, song and album of the year. Gomez also took home a Moon Person for best Afrobeats alongside Rema for their collaboration “Calm Down.”
  7. Here's Doja Cat's style evolution, from 2014 to present day. Doja Cat wears red off shoulder dress, red boots outside Schiaparelli during Paris Fashion Week - Haute Couture Spring Summer : Day One on Jan. 23, 2023 in Paris Doja Cat — aside from being one of the biggest Billboard Hot 100 hitmakers of the 2020s — has ascended the ranks in her career to not only become a formidable pop star, but has also evolved into a fashion icon in her own right. Following the success of her breakthrough single, “Say So,” Doja has used fashion to different sides of her personality, from playful (see her 2019 BET Awards and 2021 VMAs looks) and elegant, to edgy and avant-garde. The Grammy winning rapper has most recently turned heads with her recent appearances at Paris Fashion week. While attending Schiaparelli Haute Couture Spring Summer 2023 show on Monday (Jan. 27), the star got the internet talking after in a head to toe red ensemble. The twist? Makeup artist Pat McGrath covered Doja in 30,000 red Swarovski crystals — all applied by hand, she noted — to complete the show stopping look. But high fashion moments didn’t stop there: Once Doja realized she was getting criticisms online for not wearing eyelashes to complete her ensemble, she turned up the next day in a menswear inspired outfit consisting of pinstriped separates and a shirt with a ruffled breast. The real star, however, was the “Woman” singer’s fake goatee and eyebrows made of — you guesses it — strips of eyelashes. 8. The Colombian star teased a snippet of the track titled "El Jefe." Shakira is set to release a new song in collaboration with Fuerza Regida. The Colombian superstar took to social media on Friday (Sept. 15) to announce “El Jefe,” which is set to drop Wednesday (Sept. 20). When talking about her upcoming new track during an interview with ET, Shakira didn’t reveal much and only teased, “I”m not the boss in this song, but wait and see.” Then, she posted a snippet of “El Jefe,” Shakira’s first venture into música mexicana, that’s about someone who has the mentality of a millionaire but doesn’t actually have money. “You’re dreaming of leaving the barrio, you have everything it takes to be a millionaire, expensive taste, the mentality, you’re just missing a salary,” she sings over a fast-paced beat. Shakira’s collab with Fuerza Regida is a reflection of Mexican music’s dominance and influence on Latin music today. With acts like Fuerza at the forefront, the genre is having a record year growing in popularity in the United States and beyond. In May, Billboard reported that regional Mexican music consumption in the U.S. jumped 42.1% year to date through May 25, outpacing gains in the Latin genre overall, as well as country, dance/electronic, rock and pop, according to Luminate. The new song announcement arrives just days after Shakira’s show-stopping performance at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 12, where she sang a medley of her hits, including “She Wolf,” “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Objection” and newer ones such as “Te Felicito” and “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53.” The singer-songwriter also made history at the VMAs, becoming the first South American artist to receive the Video Vanguard Award. She is the second Latin artist to receive the award; Jennifer Lopez, the first performer of Latin descent, received the honor in 2018. 9. The collection spans six tracks – "Rainy Days," "Blue," "Love Me Again," "Slow Dancing," "For Us" and a piano version of "Slow Dancing". BTS‘ V is ready for his closeup. At the stroke of midnight, the K-pop superstar unleashed his debut solo LP, Layover. The collection spans six tracks – the previously released “Rainy Days,” “Blue,” first cut “Love Me Again,” “Slow Dancing,” “For Us” and a bonus track piano version of “Slow Dancing” – and they’re meant to be played in a specific order. In a release from BIGHIT last month, the music company suggest play tracks from 1-5, noting that “Slow Dancing” is the focus number of the collection, describing it as a “1970s romantic soul style track [that] exudes a laid-back and free-spirited feeling.” The set is accompanied with a visual stimulant; all five tracks will have official music videos. As previously reported, V worked with NewJeans creative director/ADOR president Hee Jin Min on the album, with BIGHIT revealing that Min oversaw the entire production of the collection, including music, choreography, design and promotion. V’s previous solo efforts include “Stigma,” “Singularity,” “Winter Bear” and “Inner Child”; his most recent original solo songs are 2021’s “Christmas Tree,” which was on the soundtrack of the Netflix K-drama Our Beloved Summer and last year’s version of the holiday classic “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.” The release of V’s collection follows the start of bandmate Suga’s military enlistment process, becoming the third member to enlist in South Korea’s mandatory military service, following Jin and J-Hope. BTS are, of course, world-beaters with six No.1 Billboard Hot 100 singles since 2020, a growing collection of industry honors (including Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards), and they’re two-time winners of the IFPI’s Global Recording Artist of the Year, in doing so becoming the only group to double up for the prestigious award, and only act to win over consecutive years. Stream Layover and watch the official music videos below.
  10. "Guts" is the official follow-up to 2021's Grammy-winning, Billboard 200-topping "Sour". Olivia Rodrigo’s new album is here, and it’s only “logical” that you hit play as soon as possible. Guts, the sophomore studio effort from the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star, officially arrived on Friday, Sept. 8. Rodrigo has been teasing the follow-up to Sour for over a year now. After dropping Easter eggs in Spotify canvases and teasing fans with seconds-long snippets, she unleashed lead single “Vampire” on June 30. The track became Rodrigo’s third to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100, and has since spent nearly every week post-release in the chart’s top 10. A promotional single titled “Bad Idea Right?” followed on Aug. 11. That song featured a markedly more frantic tempo to complement the ballad-rock opera fusion that was “Vampire.” “Bad Idea Right?” entered Hot Rock & Alternative Songs at No. 1, becoming her second overall entry and second No. 1 single on the chart. Guts marks the reunion of Rodrigo and Sour collaborator Dan Nigro; Rodrigo is a credited writer on each of the album’s 12 tracks, and Nigro is a credited producer on each track as well. With Sour, Rodrigo and Nigo struck gold. The album won thee Grammys (including best pop vocal album), spent five weeks atop the Billboard 200, and spawned the Hot 100 No. 1 singles “Drivers License” and “Good 4 U.” The tracklist for Guts, in addition to the aforementioned singles, includes eye-popping titles such as “All-American Bitch” and “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl.” In just a few days (Sep. 12), Rodrigo will perform at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. This year, the “Traitor” singer boasts six nominations, including video of the year, song of the year and best pop (all for “Vampire”). In 2021, she won three Moonpeople, including best new artist and song of the year (“Drivers License”). Rodrigo has 14 entries on the Hot 100, including six top ten hits: “Drivers License” (No. 1), “Good 4 U” (No. 1), “Vampire” (No. 1), “Deja Vu” (No. 3), “Traitor” (No. 9) and “Bad Idea Right?” (No. 10). On the Artist 100, she has spent six overall weeks at the summit.
  11. The superstar showed her appreciation for BLACKPINK's performance at the 2022 MTV VMAs. Jisoo attends the Christian Dior Womenswear Fall Winter 2023-2024 show as part of Paris Fashion Week on Feb. 28, 2023 in Paris. Taste that pink venom! Jisoo finally offered her thoughts on Taylor Swift dancing along to BLACKPINK‘s performance of “Pink Venom” at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards in a new interview on Tuesday (April 18). “Seeing Taylor Swift, someone I listened to a lot growing up, dancing along to our music… I was like, ‘Is this real life?'” the K-pop idol told Teen Vogue while promoting her new solo release ME. “That kind of feeling. For us it was inspiring and a great experience.” The performance of the lead single from 2022’s Born Pink was the girl group’s grand debut at a U.S. awards show. Jisoo’s bandmate Lisa also took home the best K-pop award for her solo single “Lalisa” during the ceremony, beating out the likes of BTS, Itzy, SEVENTEEN, Stray Kids and TWICE. (“We were so proud,” Jisoo says of Lisa’s win.) Meanwhile, Swift has continued to show love for “Pink Venom” by including the bombastic, swaggering single on the pre-show playlist ahead of each sold-out stop on The Eras Tour. During the sit-down, Jisoo also revealed she hasn’t quite “fully accepted” some elements of her global stardom. “Even now, I don’t get recognized that much,” she said in her native Korean. “When I walk around, people aren’t like, ‘Are you BLACKPINK’s Jisoo?’ That rarely happens.” Last weekend, Jisoo, Rosé, Lisa and Jennie headlined day 2 of Coachella, making history as the first South Korean artists to serve as topliners at the Indio, Calif., festival just four years after they first performed at its 2019 edition. Check out Jisoo dishing on Taylor Swift and more to Teen Vogue here.
  12. A message from the staff at MTV !!! We're back, we're sorry we were gone so long, new site/tracker code, blame G****, and report bugs! After an unplanned planned hiatus, we would like to welcome back all the community of MoreThanTV. Our domain needed to be changed to MoreThanTV.me, but we're still the same peeps. We would like to formally apologize for the abrupt disruption in service. Our intention was to slowly implement the transition from Gazelle to Luminance, but outside factors (read: G****) forced our hand. Massive Kudos to our development team to jump to the task and get the database moved over and our tracker working on Luminance. Without these devs, MTV's future would have been practically non-existent. So give them all some cheers in the forum! Before trying to log in, please perform a password reset using the existing email address that you used, on the NEW site. If you have any problems, hop onto #mtv-help on this IRC network with your old MTV username, and we'll see what we can do. Do not request an account, we are not recruiting any new members until further notice. The move to Luminance has had it's stumbling blocks, but our new lead developer, C***, has smoothed over most of the rough edges. That said, there will be many bugs along the way. So we need you, the users, to help catch em! Anything that looks out of the ordinary or does not function as previously, PLEASE HIT THE REPORT BUTTON and help us squash those bugs. 15. Gallagher is on track for his fifth solo No. 1, and 13th overall -- including albums recorded with Oasis. Liam Gallagher performs at King George's Hall on April 27, 2022 in Blackburn, England. Liam Gallagher is approaching higher ground, as Knebworth 22 (via Warner Records) leads the race for the U.K. chart title. Cut during the British rocker’s two sold-out shows at Knebworth in June last year, where he played to crowds of 170,000, the live collection leads the midweek chart. If it holds its momentum, Knebworth 22 would give Gallagher his fifth solo No. 1 album, and bragging rights over his brother Noel Gallagher, who boasts four No. 1 albums with his High Flying Birds, and missed out by a fraction on claiming a fifth when Foo Fighters won a tight chart race in June. Liam Gallagher is no stranger to life in the U.K. chart penthouse. As frontman with Oasis, he led the chart on eight occasions, a consecutive streak that includes all seven of the band’s studio albums, plus the 2010 compilation Time Flies. Knebworth was, of course, the setting of Oasis’ legendary gigs, played across two nights in August 1996, a moment in time that was captured for the feature-length documentary Knebworth 1996, directed by Jake Scott, and for its companion album which peaked at No. 4 on the U.K. chart in 2021. As a solo artist, Liam Gallagher has led the national tally with As You Were (2017), Why Me? Why Not (2019), MTV Unplugged (2020) and C’mon You Know (2022). Dropping in at No. 2 on the Official Chart Update is the Hives’ The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons (Disques Hives), the Swedish rockers’ sixth album and first in more than a decade. Fitzsimmons is on track to become the group’s career peak and third top 10 title, including their 2002 breakthrough Your New Favourite Band, released on Alan McGee’s Poptones, and 2004 followup Tyrannosaurus Hives (Polydor), both peaking at No. 7. Completing an all-new top three on the latest chart blast is Volcano (Caiola), from electronic act Jungle. Volcano should blast to the duo’s fourth top 10 appearance. Finally, John Lydon’s’s post-punk outfit Public Image Ltd could snag a first-ever U.K. top 10 with End of the World (PIL Official), set to start at No. 7, while new releases from London rapper Fredo (Unfinished Business via PG Records at No. 11) and English singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan (Balance via CTRL at No. 12) are just outside the top tier. All will be revealed when the Official U.K. Albums Chart is published Friday, Aug. 18.

  17. There's even more fallout from the release of "Feel Like Bam." The continued feud between Bam Margera and his former Jackass co-stars took a musical turn due to a diss track Margera recently released. One of the targets that was particularly struck by those insults was none other than Steve-O, whose skateboarding skills were roasted in the song entitled “Feel Like Bam.” The back-and-forth between the ex-collaborators is still raging, with Margera taking more shots and doubling down on his criticisms. As the drama continues to unfold, TMZ provided some first-hand reporting on Bam Margera’s latest round of critiques. The news outlet caught up with the man himself while he was hanging out with a few buddies, and he shared some thoughts. While further discussing Steve-O’s kickflips, Margera claimed his former friend had the "worst style in skateboarding." He summed up his thoughts with the closing line, “You gotta have style.” It really has been a back-and-forth war of words between Steve-O (who's actually named Stephen Glover) and the Viva La Bam star. With the diss track “Feel Like Bam” being full of Jackass crew insults such as these, the Wildboyz co-host took time to put together a video response to those claims of no skating style. However, Margera clearly saw that as a chance to dig deeper, resulting in this new update that sees him poking fun at the reaction video. Recorded by Cult Shφtta, SinceWhen and Tanboymiguel, ”Feel Like Bam” sees the MTV alum sharing a number of discouraging sentiments about his former collaborators. He takes particular aim at former compatriots Johnny Knoxville and Jeff Tremaine, likely as a result of his dismissal from Jackass Forever’s production, which resulted in a since-settled lawsuit. The latest chapter in the fallout is sad to see as, earlier this year, Bam Margera was on tour with Steve-O. And for a little while, it seemed to be going well. That changed when Margera had a reported relapse in his sobriety journey, leaving Stephen Glover to post, then delete, a very concerned plea on social media. As it stands, it looks like this house of once merry pranksters and performers is even more divided than before, with no logical end in sight. While parties are still concerned about Bam Margera’s behavior, the 43-year-old entertainer himself still seems to be concerned with airing grievances. There’s also further potential for responses to “Feel Like Bam” as, at this moment, only Steve-O has seemingly responded to Margera’s callouts and insults; and even those are still on the more polite side. Uncertainty reigns, as no one can really predict what will happen next as well as what steps could possibly be taken to mend the rift between all involved. If you’d like to watch the Jackass crew in happier times, you can explore their past productions through streaming. A good portion of the show’s back catalog, including the most recent film Jackass Forever, can be viewed with a Paramount + subscription, at the time of this writing.
