GNUtella
FhHuBtP.jpg

Gnutella is a system in which individuals can exchange files over the Internet directly without going through a Web site in an arrangement sometimes described as peer-to-peer (here meaning "person-to-person").

Its a large peer-to-peer network. It was the first decentralized peer-to-peer network of its kind, leading to other, later networks adopting the model. It celebrated a decade of existence on March 14, 2010 and has a user base in the millions for peer-to-peer file sharing.

In June 2005, gnutella's population was 1.81 million computers increasing to over three million nodes by January 2006. In late 2007, it was the most popular file sharing network on the Internet with an estimated market share of more than 40%.

After installing and launching Gnutella, a user's computer (node) becomes both a client and a server in the network (which is called GnutellaNet) and is able to share files that other Gnutella users have set up to make available. Gnutella, whose name pays homage to both the hazelnut/chocolate spread "Nutella" and the GNU project of the Free Software Foundation, was originally developed by Nullsoft (creators of MP3 and WinAMP). It was never publicly released because Nullsoft's parent corporation (AOL) declared the work an "unauthorized publication". However, the beta version that was made available for preview was an open source program, which resulted in any number of clone variations becoming available that AOL does not own.

Gnutella Forums
Biggest and oldest board about gnutella.

gtk-gnutella
A GTK+ Gnutella client, efficient, reliable and fast, written in C. It has been optimized for speed and scalability, with low-memory consumption. It is meant to be left running 24x7, using little CPU and only the configured bandwidth.
It is possible to run gtk-gnutella without a GUI or using a shell interface.
Most reliable client so far.

Like most decentralized P2P networks Gnutella need some time to recognize all good peers.

After ~ 1-2 hour you can get really good speeds and much more search results!

And don't forget to forward port for client if you have a router!

OnionShare

OnionShare lets you securely and anonymously share files of any size. It works by starting a web server, making it accessible as a Tor hidden service, and generating an unguessable URL to access and download the files. It doesn't require setting up a server on the internet somewhere or using a third party filesharing service. You host the file on your own computer and use a Tor hidden service to make it temporarily accessible over the internet. The other user just needs to use Tor Browser to download the file from you.
Features include:

  • A user-friendly drag-and-drop graphical user interface that works in Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux
  • Ability to share multiple files and folders at once
  • Support for multiple people downloading files at once
  • Automatically copies the unguessable URL to your clipboard
  • Shows you the progress of file transfers
  • When file is done transferring, automatically closes OnionShare to reduce the attack surface
  • Localized into several languages, and supports international unicode filenames
  • Designed to work in Tails, for high risk users

Quick Start
You can download OnionShare to install on your computer from https://onionshare.org/.
You can set up your development environment to build OnionShare yourself by following these instructions. You can also install OnionShare in your Tails persistent volume by following these instructions.

How to Use
Before you can share files, you need to open Tor Browser in the background. This will provide the Tor service that OnionShare uses to start the hidden service.
Open OnionShare and drag and drop files and folders you wish to share, and start the server. It will show you a long, random-looking URL such as http://cfxipsrhcujgebmu.onion/7aoo4nnzj3qurkafvzn7kket7u and copy it to your clipboard. This is the secret URL that can be used to download the file you're sharing. If you'd like multiple people to be able to download this file, uncheck the "close automatically" checkbox.
Send this URL to the person you're trying to send the files to. If the files you're sending aren't secret, you can use normal means of sending the URL: emailing it, posting it to Facebook or Twitter, etc. If you're trying to send secret files then it's important to send this URL securely. I recommend you use Off-the-Record encrypted chat to send the URL.
The person who is receiving the files doesn't need OnionShare. All they need is to open the URL you send them in Tor Browser to be able to download the file.

eDonkey / Kad

The eDonkey Network (also known as the eDonkey2000 network or eD2k) is a decentralized, mostly server-based, peer-to-peer file sharing network best suited to share big files among users, and to provide long term availability of files. Like most sharing networks, it is decentralized, as there is not any central hub for the network; also, files are not stored on a central server but are exchanged directly between users based on the peer-to-peer principle.

JCWSEus.gif

The Kad network is a peer-to-peer (P2P) network which implements the Kademlia P2P overlay protocol. The majority of users on the Kad Network are also connected to servers on the eDonkey network, and Kad Network clients typically query known nodes on the eDonkey network in order to find an initial node on the Kad network.

The Kad network uses a UDP-based protocol to:

  • Find sources for eD2k hashes.
  • Search for eD2k hashes based on keywords in the file name.
  • Find comments and ratings for files (hashes).
  • Provide buddy services for firewalled (Low ID) nodes.
  • Store locations, comments and (keywords out of) filenames.

eD2k still very popular in these days.
And still have a tons of data(sometimes very rare)!

Clients:

aMule is a free peer-to-peer file sharing application that works with the EDonkey network and the Kad network, offering similar features to eMule and adding others such as GeoIP (country flags).
aMule shares code with the eMule project and does not include adware nor spyware as are often found in proprietary P2P applications. The credit and partials downloads of eMule can be used by aMule and vice versa, making program substitution simple.
