‘Minority Report’ TV Series in Development

Science fiction classics are making a comeback. A sequel to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner is currently in the works at Alcon Entertainment, and cult favorites Battlestar Galactica and Babylon 5 are both being adapted for the big screen.

Now a more recent science fiction property is making a comeback – as a TV show.

According to The Wrap, Steven Spielberg is developing a TV series based on his 2002 sci-fi hit Minority Report, which will be penned by Godzilla writer Max Borenstein.

Now, the deal hasn’t closed quite yet, but should the series go forward at Amblin Television, Spielberg is expected to choose an actor as the lead, just as he did with Halle Berry on CBS’ newest sci-fi drama Extant.

For those who may have missed it, Minority Report starred Tom Cruise as PreCrime Captain John Anderton, a policeman in 2054 who used humans with precognitive abilities to stop murders before they happened. As always, there were a few flaws in the system, and Anderton ended up on the run in an action-packed thrill ride.

This isn’t the first “pre-crime†science fiction series to debut on CBS. Back in 2011,Person of Interest â€“ which has a a similar premise – premiered to high ratings and great reviews. The crime-drama, quickly dubbed Minority Report-lite by the media, followed “an ex-CIA hitman and a scientist who team up to prevent crimes before they happen.â€

Person of Interest is now entering its fourth season, and its success very well could’ve paved the way for Minority Report to be adapted for TV.

However, as many know, Minority Report is actually based on a short story by author Philip K. Dick. So it’s just as possible that, following the success of last year’s Under the Dome and the moderate success of this summer’s Extant, Spielberg could simply be looking to adapt his original movie rather than follow in the other series’ footsteps.

What do you think about Spielberg bringing Minority Report to TV? Is there room for both Person of Interest and Minority Report on CBS? Let us know in the comments.

Stay tuned to Screen Rant for more Minority Report TV series news as it becomes available.
