Moto G2, Moto X+1, and Moto 360 to be revealed on September 4th

We’ve been waiting for the Moto 360 for months now, but the time is almost here.

Motorola published a new announcement today, giving us some details about an event that will take place next month. The invitation says “Choose to join us,†with the date “September 4th†and the location (“Motorola Chicago at the merchandise martâ€).

While the company doesn’t tell us what it’ll reveal, a picture of the folded box on the page shows us a green quadrant with a smartphone that bears an “X†on the screen – a clear reference to the Moto X and the new Moto X+1 that’s due around this time; the next quadrant, a pink one, shows a watch telling time, which seems to be a clear reference to the Moto 360 that Motorola announced at Google’s I/O 2014 Conference at the end of June.

A blue quadrant points to something close to the ear, an earpiece – so we’re thinking that Motorola’s got a new headphone set in mind, perhaps a Bluetooth wireless one. Last but not least, in the yellow quadrant lies a phone with the letter “G,†which seems to indicate that a Moto G2 (follow-up successor to the inexpensive Moto G) is on the way.

The Moto X+1 has been leaked in multiple photos, so much so that we know the specs well. The Moto X+1 will feature a 5.2-inch AMOLED display, a Full HD screen resolution of 1920 x 1080p, a 2.3Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, and will run Android 4.4.3 KitKat out of the box. At this point, however, we wonder if Motorola will give this device Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box, or stick with 4.4.3 for a few weeks before rolling out Google’s security update to 4.4.3 KitKat.

The Moto G is expected to come with a 1280 x 720p screen resolution, but we don’t know about the size of the display. If the Moto X+1 will increase the Moto X size from 4.7 inches to 5.2 inches, we imagine that Motorola will either keep the Moto G2 at 4.5 inches or increase it slightly to 4.7 inches, for example.

As for the Moto 360 smartwatch, it looks to have water and dust resistance, while also coming with a round watchface shape and interchangeable straps. The photos we’ve seen of the Moto 360 come with a leather strap and a rather large watchface – so it might not be so “lightweight†on the arm – but you can’t deny that the watch is shaping up to be one of the more premium smartwatches of the year. The Moto 360 will run Google’s newly-announced Android Wear platform, which now has about 30 apps available for download (including Facebook Messenger).

As for the majority of the details, you’ll have to wait until the September 4 announcement to find out what Motorola’s got planned. Stay tuned, as we’ll be back to bring you the best of the Motorola announcement.
