Microsoft Releases Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 July Firmware Update

Microsoft has recently released a new firmware update for the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book, rolling out new driver versions supposed to address the recently reported bugs that might affect performance at certain times.

Although the company hasn’t yet updated the Surface Update History page with information on the July release, it turns out that many Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book units are already getting the new version, so more details about what’s included should be posted anytime soon.

According to a report by WindowsCentral, these are the improvements that Microsoft included in the July update for the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book:

Intel(R) Corporation driver update for Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) OED
Intel(R) Corporation driver update for Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller
Microsoft driver update for Surface Button
Microsoft driver update for Surface System Aggregator Firmware
Microsoft driver update for Surface Touch

As always, the update is shipped via the integrated Windows Update, but keep in mind that your device needs to be either fully charged or plugged in to make sure that it doesn’t run out of battery while it installs the new firmware update. Obviously, a reboot is required, so save your work before anything else.

This new firmware update is the last that the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book are getting before the release of the Anniversary Update, which is scheduled to happen on August 2. Microsoft hasn’t included any specific improvements for the Anniversary Update, but the Pen is getting some tweaks too, and this is quite important, given the fact that one of the new features brought by this release is Windows Ink.

Certainly, we’ll know more about what’s included in this firmware update when Microsoft publishes the detailed change log on its official update page.
