Pete Wentz: Don't conform, kids!

Pete Wentz thinks people are "terrified" of change.

The rocker is one fourth of band Fall Out Boy, who have been present in the music scene for over a decade. After a brief hiatus in 2009, they're back and stronger than ever.

They released their comeback album Save Rock and Roll in 2013 and recently dropped single Centuries from their upcoming, currently untitled, sixth album. The track has been described as a song that aims to "empower", and Pete hopes people will take inspiration from the lyrics.

"A lot of legendary tales start from humble beginnings; people tend to forget that. When you're talking to kids who play guitar or DJ, people can be so dismissive. The expectation is that the kid should conform, because people are obsessed with the status quo," Pete complained to Rock Sound magazine.

"Change terrifies a lot of us. Centuries really bands on that. Just because you're being told what you're doing sucks, doesn't mean that you're not a leader. Leaders attract a lot of arrows."

The song has become a firm favourite in the charts and has caused fans to get even more excited about the band's forthcoming record. Pete is joined in the group by lead vocalist Patrick Stump, guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley and, despite all being flexible, they don't want to release their new music until it's perfect.

"We don't have an exact timetable yet. I have a two-year-old son and Patrick [recently became a father], so there's a lot going on. We're basically like Tusken Raiders, Sand People from Star Wars," he grinned. "We're very mobile, our families are very mobile, and our kids can go on tour with us every summer... My guess is very early 2015 for an album. That's absolutely the goal; we won't just be putting out songs, there will be an album."
