Bitcoin tips can be sent via the Lightning Network via the Strike app, or by directly adding a BTC address to one's profile. Twitter, the social media giant, will add cryptocurrency payment options to its tip jar, allowing any user to pay through the platform.

According to a Thursday blog post by Twitter staff product manager Esther Crawford, the crypto tips feature will be available to all iOS users worldwide, with Android support coming in the coming weeks. Users will be able to receive funds by linking third-party apps such as Cash App, Patreon, Venmo, Chipper, Bandcamp, Razorpay, GoFundMe, PicPay, and Wealthsimple Cash — depending on their region — to their Twitter bios and individual Tweets.

“We want to ensure that everyone on Twitter has a path to earning money,” Crawford explained. “Digital currencies help us get there by encouraging more people to participate in the economy and by enabling people to send money across borders with the least amount of friction possible.”
