A cybernetic ransomware attack hit Eastern Europe and Russia. It affected, among other things, computers belonging to the Kyiv metro network, Odessa International Airport and several news trusts in Russia.


Researchers from Kaspersky and Eset have called the recently discovered ransomware Bad Rabbit. Hackers behind him ask for rewards in Bitc*oin, so victims can unlock their terminals.


The amount you want is not a very high one, worth about 0.05 Bitc*oin, or about $ 275.


According to specialists, Bad Rabbit is related to Petya, the attack that hit the same region this summer. Bad Rabbit could have spread because of the exploitation of a Windows vulnerability, the same that Petya speculated.


This has made cyber security researchers realize that Bad Rabbit is linked to Petya, and those behind him are likely to be the same cybercriminals who were behind the August attack.


In addition, Kaspersky and Eset employees also found that hackers had planned this attack thoroughly since June, writes The Verge, quoted by adevarul.ro
