What We Know About 'GOT' Season 8 So Far

Season 7 of "Game of Thrones" only came to an end a few weeks ago, and fans still aren't sure just how long the wait will be for the show's final season. However, while they wait, they are getting some hints about what's to come.

There certainly isn't much info out there that will confirm what is happening on the final season of the HBO megahit series, but some small tidbits have begun to leak following the cast's slow return to filming.

Here's everything we know so far about the final season of the show:

Daenerys May Have Shorter Hair:

Emilia Clarke, the actress best known for portraying Daenerys Targaryen on the show, is known for her blonde hair on the show, even though she is a natural brunette. The blonde hair she has sported in the past has been a part of a series of wigs the show has crafted for her. However, Clarke recently took to Instagram to show that she had actually died her hair blonde for the first time as she returns for filming.

Her hair is short in the photo as well, which could indicate that Khaleesi will cut off her famously long strands before the major battle with the Night King. However, if not, it will mean that some form of a wig, or extensions, will be used to maintain her long blonde locks for the show's final season.

New Characters Are Being Introduced:

It might seem unlikely that the show would actually introduce major new characters so late in the game, but despite that, there will be some new faces in those final episodes.

According to Watchers on the Wall, two now important child roles are being cast for the new season. The first is for a Northern Girl who is roughly 8-years-old. She is described as being a "straight-talking Northern-accented girl, someone remarkable for her dauntlessness and integrity." She's also been "brought up in a family of soldiers and shares their fearlessness." Actors who audition are expected to be strong-minded and have a fighting spirit.

A boy between the ages of 8-12 is also being cast, and is described as having a "physically fit and agile look, someone with a good, distinctive face." The character comes from a "poor background, a boy who has to fight to make his way in the world." The actor who takes on the role will need to "completely own the scenes" that the character appears in.

While there is no way of knowing just how important of a role these characters play, it will be interesting to see how they are factored in to the overall story at such a late stage.

Almost Everyone Will Still Be Alive When The Season Begins...But They Aren't All Making It Through To The Final Episode:

For a show that is known for killing off main characters nearly as often as the writers may finish a page of script, Season 7 was much more merciful when it came to the show's core players. The characters who were killed off were all largely secondary characters, and in some cases, tertiary ones as well. The only major character to die was Petyr Baelish in the season finale, after Sansa (Sophie Turner), Arya (Maisie Williams) and Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) banded together and exposed all of the crimes he committed against their family and others.

Because so many characters made it through Season 7 however, and many will theoretically still need to die before the show ends, the cast is warning fans to be prepared for a "bloodbath" in Season 8. In fact, after the Season 7 finale ended, Kit Harington, who portrays Jon Snow/Aegon Targaryen, said that exact phrase in an interview with Deadline.

"And the thing is, with so few characters left, they (the viewers) should get used to and get ready for next year is 'Thrones' returning to form and killing its main characters quickly," he said. "They're going to go, and they're going to go fast, and I think that the payoff of our characters not being in great peril this year will be that, next year, it's going to be a bloodbath."
