Why Is UC Browser Not Safe Anymore?

Recommended Posts

UC browser is a popular mobile browser in China and India. Used by more than 500 million people in the world on their mobile devices, this browser has been used for years. Lately however, The Citizen Lab from the University of Toronto has contacted UCWeb and Alibaba about issues regarding the browser, but they haven’t received an answer except for a promise to look into the matters.

Use UC Browser and You’ll Risk Your Privacy and Security

The report had gone public after they didn’t solve the issue and it pointed out a few flaws:

Issues with UC browser concerning privacy and security have been found. Personal information and search queries can be transmitted.

Both language editions for China and India pose a threat of privacy risks, having leaks of information.

UC browser users who have it on their mobile devices can have their user data leaked.

Tests Showed that US Browser Should not be Used

The former NSA contractor, Edward Snowden has revealed in a document why the UC browser is not safe for the users.

After some testing done with Qualys SSL Test on the last version of UC browser, it appeared that the user agent was vulnerable to Logjam, to FREAK attack and also showed POODLE vulnerability, all suggesting for upgrading the version of the browser or disabling SSL 3.

The same test was done for Brave browser and it showed that this browser was completely safe, having a good protocol support, no vulnerability to Logjam, FREAK or POODLE.

The test showed that the UC browser is not safe, because the UC web didn’t pay attention to security. They are good at offering features, but if you plan on making transactions or pay something in an online store or in an online play store, you should use Google Chrome, as it’s the safest browser. UC browser is good only for downloading files or other stuff from the internet, and just casually browsing the internet.
