Kesha’s New Music Is Coming Soon, According To Her Label — Or Is It?

Recommended Posts

Kesha didn't break out any new material on her recent Fuck The World Tour, but it looks like new songs from the singer/songwriter are set to be released soon — or at least that's what her label is hoping for.

Sony Music Entertainment is the conglomerate that includes Kemosabe — the label owned by Dr. Luke, the producer that Kesha accused of sexual, psychological, and physical abuse — to which she's still contractually obligated. Kesha has tried to free herself of her ties to Dr. Luke and Kemosabe, and a judge halted her efforts earlier this year when she denied Kesha's request to be released from her obligations to the producer and label.

She's been working on new music in the meantime — she collaborated with Zedd this spring — and has submitted new tracks to Kemosabe. She's agreed to work with a number of producers, and Sony is working with executives at RCA, according to Buzzfeed, to "keep the process moving forward."

This means that a new Kesha album may be out, and in the not-so-distant future: “Creating a new album takes time, and everyone’s goal is to deliver a high quality album consistent with Kesha’s past releases," Sony Music said in their Buzzfeed statement. "We hope to share exciting new music with Kesha’s fans soon.”

That's a positive development, but it may be an optimistic one, according to Kesha's legal representation. “Kesha has been trying for six months to record and release new music,” said Danny Petrocelli, Kesha's attorney, of this news from Sony.

“Only in the last month, after our last court hearing, has any progress been made, but it is hardly enough. Kesha still has received no commitments on promotion, songs, or even a release date. We hope things turn around fast. Meanwhile, Kesha intends to continue participating in the creative process in the hopes she can meaningfully return to work.”
