Niantic Confirms New Pokemon for Pokemon Go, PokeStops Tweaks

Keeping Pokemon Go relevant for months and years is quite a challenge for Niantic because, no matter how successful the game might be right now, the continuously evolving tech world can make overnight sensations like this one obsolete in a very short period of time.

Niantic, however, is trying to prevent this from happening, and the company is already working on some updates, including new Pokemon.

John Hanke, Niantic CEO and founder, has said at Comic-Con that new generations of Pokemon will arrive at some point in the future, but no specific timeline can be provided right now. Work in this regard has already started behind closed doors, and Niantic hopes to bring new Pokemon to players around the world as soon as possible, with Hanke claiming that new goodies will be offered in the coming “months and years.”

“Beyond first generation, there are some others that may make their way into our universe. We're looking forward to finding interesting ways to make that happen in the coming months and years,” Hanke is quoted as saying by The Verge.

Heal Pokemon at pokestops

Additionally, Niantic is planning an update for Pokemon Go that would give pokestops new abilities, as the company discovered that the majority of users are using lures on them to attract Pokemon

“That's a pretty cool idea that you can acquire an object that changes the function of a pokéstop and gives it a new ability,” Hanke explains, hinting that pokestops could soon become healing centers for Pokemon.

Niantic’s founder admits that some of the game's features weren’t quite ready when Pokemon Go went live earlier this month, and this is something that millions of players have been complaining about for many weeks now.

"You've only seen these guys as silhouettes because maybe we weren't quite finished by launch day,” he says about team leaders. “We're working really hard to keep the servers up and running. We're working on it, but its gonna take a little longer.”

Niantic is really having a hard time keeping servers online, but downtime, crashes, errors, and bugs continue to occur, causing frustration among players who expect better reliability for such a popular title. For what it’s worth, Pokemon Go is certainly the most successful buggy game ever.
