Billy Bob Thornton has been speaking about forthcoming sequelBad Santa 2 to THR, and despite looking forward to the project, is refreshingly frank about how it will measure up to the original…

“We’re just waiting for a script, ya know?†says Thornton. “We’re never gonna beat the first one, but you got to get as close as you can. You just can’t go and do it halfway so we’re waiting for something that’s close enough.â€

“It’ll do real well, I imagine, and people will say, ‘Well, it wasn’t as good as the first one’ and we’ll say, ‘Yeah, we knew it wouldn’t be’, but I think it should be fun and I think people who liked [the first one] will enjoy it and hopefully we’ll get it off.â€

All of which is a thoroughly refreshing approach to what could have been regarded as a fairly cynical exercise! Bravo Billy Bob…

The sequel has yet to be given an official release date, with director Doug Ellin currently occupied with the Entourage movie. Expect an update on this in due course…
