Black cats certainly aren’t lucky for Sunderland fan Cass Farrar as their hammering at Southampton was the THIRD time he’s seen his side lose 8-0.

The jinxed 69-year-old was at St Mary’s Stadium to see the Saints demolish Gus Poyet’s men, but incredibly it wasn’t the first or even the second time that he’d seen such a humiliating defeat.

Farrar, a retired headteacher from Whitburn, can now boast the unenviable record of having seen all three of Sunderland’s 8-0 losses, with the first one taking place 46 years ago in 1968.

West Ham were the opponents on that occasion, with QPR manager Harry Redknapp setting up two of Geoff Hurst’s six goals as the Hammers thumped Farrar’s beloved Black Cats at the Boleyn Ground.

Watford then replicated West Ham’s efforts at Vicarage Road in 1982, as Luther Blissett stuck four past a hapless Sunderland team that included Barry Venison and Ally McCoist.

Southampton made it third time unlucky for Farrar at the weekend, and it seems that the team from the north east are more susceptible to a hammering whenever they travel south – this trio of thrashings has seen three different Sunderland squads travel just over 1,700 miles to concede 24 goals without reply.
