Gareth Bale has been ruled out of Real Madrid’s Champions League clash away to Liverpool on Wednesday after failing to recover from a muscle problem in his buttock.

The Welshman picked up the injury to his gluteus recently, which resulted in Carlo Ancelotti leaving him out of Los Blancos’ 5-0 thrashing of Levante on Saturday as a precautionary measure.

With Bale not having fully recovered from the problem, the 24-year-old will now miss Real’s European encounter with Liverpool as well as the side’s forthcoming Clasico clash with Barcelona on Saturday.

Even with the absence of the world’s most expensive player, Liverpool will still have to contend with a team that are currently on a seven-game unbeaten streak in all competitions.

At the forefront of Real’s recent form has been Cristiano Ronaldo, who netted his 10th goal in four league games against Levante and set a new La Liga record in the process – with his brace on Saturday taking his tally to 15 strikes in just eight matches this term.

As well as the Portugal star, Los Blancos also boast the likes of James Rodriguez – who has scored twice and created three league goals for Real this season.

Javier Hernandez, who is on a season-long loan from Manchester United, is seemingly also enjoying life in the Spanish capital after netting three times in La Liga while Isco has one goal and four assists to his name.

Liverpool fans may have breathed a sigh of relief after hearing about Bale’s injury, but the prospect of facing Ancelotti’s men in the kind of form they are in will do little to ease their fears ahead of the game.
