PS3 Gets PlayStation Now Open Beta Today, More Games Coming to the Service

God of War: Ascension, Infamous, and Ultra Street Fighter IV are coming to the streaming service "soon."

The PlayStation Now open beta is no longer exclusive to the PlayStation 4. Sony announced today that a trial period for the streaming service is available starting today on PlayStation 3 in the United States and Canada.

Gamers will see PS Now games, now numbering more than 150 in all, integrated in the PlayStation Store. In addition, Sony's John Koller writes on the PlayStation Blog that God of War: Ascension, Infamous, and Ultra Street Fighter IV are all "coming soon" to PS Now.

PS Now rentals are offered for a variety of prices that correspond to duration. In most cases, Sony says, you can rent a game for a week at the cost of about $1 per day. These prices are still in flux, as the service remains a beta.

"We are still in the early days of PS Now, but it's been great to hear from users that have been pleased with the service's performance," Koller says. "We want to thank everyone who has tried out PS Now and encourage everyone to check it out."

Koller explains that Sony is always listening to feedback about PS Now on PS3 and PS4 in an effort to "refine the service." PS Now is also coming to PlayStation Vita and some Bravia TV sets, though it's unclear when the service will roll out for those platforms.

Currently, Sony only offers PlayStation 3 games through PS Now, but the company is considering adding PS4, PS2, and original PlayStation games sometime in the future. Overall, Sony says PS Now is a "long-term journey" for the company.

Sony may not be the only major console player in the streaming space forever. The company's main competitor, Microsoft, is reportedly working on an Xbox streaming game service of its own.
