  1. A new Sunset Overdrive soundtrack, Sunset Overdrive: Volume 2 -- The Fizzco Sessions, arrives on Amazon and other retailers December 23, but we have an early Christmas present for you. Right now you can listen to two songs from the upcoming album right here via the Soundcloud embeds below. The songs, heavy and thumping EDM tracks, are "Sunset Electro" by Liam Shy and "Under Control" by Arkaen. The Sunset Overdrive music was composed and produced through a deep collaborative on the part of Microsoft, Insomniac Games, and San Francisco-based music studio Pyramind. The end result is a soundtrack of unique songs, including the two below, that are meant to match the game's overall tone. The two tracks here from the latest Fizzco Sessions album are designed to have a flair that represents the evil Fizzco Corporation. Take a listen and let us know what you think in the comments below. For more on the creative process behind bringing the songs to life, check out the video above. Sunset Overdrive is available today exclusively for Xbox One.

  3. New IP for Xbox One from Insomniac Games launches tomorrow; here's what the critics are saying. Sunset Overdrive, the new IP for Xbox One from Insomniac Games--best known for PlayStation games likeRatchet & Clank and Resistance--is nearly here. The over-the-top open-world game launches tomorrow, though the game's review embargo lifted earlier today. Below you'll find a collection of scores and opinions about Sunset Overdrive from a handful of publications. Tomorrow also marks the release of the $400 Sunset Overdrive Xbox One bundle, which includes a white system and matching white controller. This is notable because it's the first time Microsoft will offer the console (publicly, at least) in a color other than black. If you can wait, you'll get a much better deal on the Sunset Overdrive Xbox One bundle starting this Sunday, when a limited-time price drop will let you buy it for $350. For more on Sunset Overdrive's critical reception, check out GameSpot sister site Metacritic. Game: Sunset Overdrive Developer: Insomniac Games Platforms: Xbox One (a PC version has not been ruled out) Release Date: October 28 Price: $59.99 GameSpot -- 8/10 "Insomniac Games has crafted an excellent game in Sunset Overdrive. It's not without a few niggling issues, but you'll be too busy enjoying yourself to care. You can compare it to games like Crackdown, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and Ratchet and Clank, but by combining the best elements of those games into a single package and injecting it with an anything-goes, rock-and-roll attitude, you'll never think of it as anything but a singular achievement that stands tall on its own merits. It's one of the best games on the Xbox One, and a refreshing shot of merriment." - Peter Brown [Full review] VideoGamer -- 6/10 "Sunset Overdrive has some excellent ideas, but its triumphs are sadly suffocated beneath ultra-repetitive mission design and unsatisfying enemy encounters." - Steven Burns [Full review] Joystiq -- 5/5 "Each of the game's systems feeds into another, making the experience feel complete and purposeful. More importantly, it gives players a plethora of choices in how they look, what weapon they use and how they play, and then makes every single possible combination feel vindicated. Nothing goes to waste in the awesome-pocalypse, and everyone's invited to Sunset City's afterparty." - S. Prell [Full review] Game Informer -- 9.25/10 "Outside of the mission monotony, Sunset Overdrive is an immensely rewarding experience that has a look and style all its own and a great gameplay package to complement it. It's a colorful return to form for Insomniac Games, and a hell of an exclusive for Xbox One." - Andrew Reiner [Full review] Eurogamer -- 8/10 "If you wanted to be uncharitable, you could voice the suspicion that a great many baseball caps were turned backwards in the echoing board room where this project was greenlit, but with the campaign done and the city freshly filled with challenges, I don't really feel like being uncharitable. Beneath the glorious tech, and once the writing relaxes a little, Sunset Overdrive's wonderfully lurid and heartfelt--a bit like playing an old 4AD album sleeve. If you get that reference, you'll probably get this, too." - Christian Donlan[Full review] IGN -- 9/10 "Sunset Overdrive is big, gorgeous, and a hell of a lot of fun. Never has getting from point A to point B in an open-world game provided so much enjoyment. It provides some of the most fun, frantic, and fantastic gaming I've had on the Xbox One. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to once-again adorn my wolf mask, leap off the highest ledge I can find, and fire an explosive stuffed animal at that group of angry robots." - Marty Sliva [Full review] The Guardian -- 3/5 "Sunset Overdrive never quite surpasses the chaotic physics of Just Cause, the coherent style of Blood Dragon, or the assured sense of place of GTA V--nor does it manage to draw its story and systems toward a coherent, impactful point. In the end, its hero escapes the purgatory of a boring job and successfully wreaks revenge on the judgmental consumers he once served. But the game itself does little to undermine the increasingly over-familiar, open-world establishment, instead quietly celebrating the status quo." -Simon Parkin [Full review] A selection of additional Sunset Overdrive review scores: Destructoid -- 8.5/10 Polygon -- 9/10 GamesBeat -- 85/100 USGamer -- 4.5/5 The Escapist -- 4/5 Shacknews -- 8/10 GamesRadar -- 4/5 Hardcore Gamer -- 4/5
  4. Sunset Overdrive wasn't announced for PC, but Insomniac hasn't ruled it out. The ad you see above might state that Xbox One-exclusive Sunset Overdrive is coming to PC, but it's just a simple mistake, Microsoft has said. NeoGAF user Lucifon spotted the ad earlier today online, but as some other users guessed, Microsoft didn't actually mean to say the game is coming to PC. "On the Sunset Xbox/PC ad: Not true, this was a simple mistake and the team is aware/addressing," said Mike Ybarra, who works on the Xbox Platform and Windows Gaming Development Team. "Sorry for any confusion!" In September, Sunset Overdrive developer Insomniac Games said it has no plans to bring its over-the-topXbox One action game to PC, but has not ruled out a release for computers sometime down the road. "I don't know what the future holds," Insomniac Games marketing lead James Stevenson said at the time. "Right now there's no plans for a PC version of the game. We're just working hard to finish up [the Xbox One version]. We're going to support it post-launch and then we'll see what happens in the future. But there's no plans. We aren't planning a PC version or anything like that." Sunset Overdrive launches October 28. You can buy the game that day by itself or through a $399 Xbox One hardware bundle that includes a white system, matching white controller, and a copy of the game. 5. "900p works perfect for us," says creative director of upcoming Xbox One exclusive. Back in September, developer Insomniac Games confirmed that upcoming Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive would run at 900p/30fps. Now, the studio has revealed that it had the game running at 1080p during development, but chose 900p in part because the lower resolution allowed the developer to create more on-screen mayhem. The end result, according to creative director Marcus Smith, is a game so stuffed with action thatTransformers director Michael Bay would be proud. "Why would you want less action on screen? That's insanity," Smith said when asked in an IGN video why the studio chose 900p over 1080p. "900p works perfect for us. We spent a lot of time comparing and contrasting. We had it running at 1080p, we'd play it; we had it running at 900p, we'd play it and they didn't look considerably different. But the things that you could draw on screen were a lot more, and we wanted to draw a lot more on screen. More action, more better. Michael Bay would be very proud." Also in the interview, Smith reveals that while Sunset Overdrive will not support free roam co-op at launch, this could be added to the game through a post-release expansion. If that doesn't happen, it could show up in a sequel. "Never say never," Smith said. Sunset Overdrive launches in the US on October 28 as an Xbox One exclusive. The game, which is published by Microsoft, will be accompanied by a $400 Xbox One bundle that includes a white system (and matching white controller) and a copy of the game. This is notable because it will represent the first time Microsoft will publicly offer the Xbox One in a color other than black. For more on Sunset Overdrive, check out GameSpot's previous coverage. You can also test-fire some of the game's over-the-top weapons through a special interactive website called Walter's Workshop. 6. "I advise you not to use the phrase ‘Sunset Overhype’ because that’s just lazy writing!†Sunset Overdrive, the stylized open-world shooter exclusive the Xbox One, will be released later this month, so reviewers are already playing the game in preparation. As you can see in the video above (viaForbes), developer Insomniac Games put a message in the game just for them. "If you’re watching this, that means you’re currently reviewing or streaming the game," Insomniac Games' Brandon Winfrey said in the in-game video, "Look I’m not trying to sway your review score either way, I mean your opinion is your opinion. But I advise you not to use the phrase ‘Sunset Overhype’ because that’s just lazy writing!†The video is part of Sunset TV, a weekly show that Insomniac will stream inside of Sunset City to update players on all the latest game news, show off fan art, and let them know about the weekly and community challenges. Sunset Overdrive launches October 28. Also on that day, Microsoft will release a special edition white Xbox One bundle that includes a matching white controller, and a digital copy of the game for $399. 7. Plus, watch an exclusive behind-the-scenes video right now. Microsoft and Insomniac Games today launched a website where you can virtually fire some of the over-the-top guns featured in this month's Xbox One title, Sunset Overdrive. The site is called Walter's Workshop. It lets you select a real-life version of one of Sunset Overdrive weapons, choose a target, fire the crazy gun (see a list of options below), and then watch a pre-recorded explosion from the comfort of your own home. The site also lets you see every inch of the weapons you're firing using a 360-degree panorama camera. Slow-motion options are also available. Among the weapons you can fire in Walter's Workshop are: A grenade launcher that shoots Teddy bears strapped with dynamite A handgun called Roman Candle that shoots fireworks from a hacksaw You can see these weapons and more in action in the exclusive, behind-the-scenes video embedded at the top of this post. Sunset Overdrive launches exclusively for Xbox One on October 28. For more, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
