  1. One of the most-used Popcorn Time forks will release an iOS app for non-jailbroken devices tomorrow. The new release opens up a whole new audience of hundreds of millions of devices. In addition, the Popcorn Time team suggests that other developers will soon be able to use the custom installer to break Apple's closed ecosystem too. In just a year the Popcorn Time brand has managed to establish itself as one of Hollywood’s main threats, and even Netflix fears the open source project. One of the big appeals, aside from the easy-to-use interface, is the fact that it’s available on many platforms and devices. Now, there’s a brand new release that will extend this list. On its one year anniversary tomorrow the fork will release an installer for non-jailbroken iOS devices. This means that anyone with an iPhone or iPad can install the popular app. “We intentionally postponed our one year celebration since we wanted to celebrate it with this groundbreaking release the world has been waiting for,†the team tells TF. The Popcorn Time fork already had an iOS app, which they released a few months ago. However, the new one is special as it can be installed on any device. The developers say they use a new custom installer that can add apps to iOS devices without requiring a jailbreak. Popcorn Time’s dedicated iOS page will link to the new installer starting tomorrow “The beauty is in the simplicity of this installer,†the team says. “All a user will need to do to get Popcorn Time on a jailbroken iOS device is to download the ‘iOS installer’ to his desktop computer, connect his iOS device to the computer with a USB cable, and then just follow simple instructions that will download the app on the iOS device.†Popcorn Time on iOS In addition to watching films and TV-series on mobile devices, the iOS app also supports playback on Chromecast and Apple TV, similar to the desktop application. According to the developers, however, having the option to easily add apps to iOS devices without a jailbreak is the main ‘revolution’ of this new release. And Popcorn Time is just the start. “The team we worked with on this solution has already launched this website with one clear intention in mind: To fight the closed ecosystem Apple has created, screening and choosing for us what we can or cannot install on the devices we purchased and paid top dollar for,†the team tells TF. This means that many more non-Apple-approved apps may come to iOS devices in the future. Needless to say, Apple is not going to like this, but the team says that the developers are prepared for battle. “The installer guys have no doubt that this will be a long journey, playing ‘cat and mouse’ with Apple that probably won’t like them breaking their closed eco-system. But seeing their work now and future updates for the installer they’re already working on, we’re sure they’re ready for any obstacle Apple will throw their way,†they note. TF tried a closed alpha release of the new installer and it works as advertised. The Popcorn Time app does indeed install without any hassle. The only limitation is that the installer requires a Windows machine, but the Mac version is expected be ready later this month. It will be interesting to see how Apple responds to the new revelations. In any case, it’s clear that the list of Popcorn Time enemies just got longer. Stay tuned… Breaking Apple’s ecosystem

Platinum Games' critically-acclaimed action game Bayonetta 2 will be released exclusively for the Wii U at Australian retailers this week. The game is a sequel to 2010's Bayonetta, which was released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and isincluded with Bayonetta 2. Like its predecessor, Bayonetta 2 follows the story of the titular Bayonetta in her fight against angels and demons. The game is one of the few to have scored a perfect ten on GameSpot. Editor Mark Walton praised it for its "stunningly deep, yet accessible combat system" and "relentless, action-packed pacing" in our review. To see what everyone else is saying about it, check out our review roundup. Fans of Sid Meier's Civilization series can look forward to this week's release of Civilization: Beyond Earth. As the name suggests, the turn-based strategy game sees players lead an expedition into space to colonize a new planet. Decisions made early in the game will have a large affect on subsequent gameplay. Beyond Earth was announced six months ago during PAX East. The game marks the first time a Civilization game explores the future of the human race, as opposed to playing in the past. Beyond Earth's science-fiction setting will undoubtedly be familiar to fans of Firaxis' 1999 hit, Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri, as both share a similar, humans-on-an-alien-world premise. 5. November 16th sees the welcomed return of WRETCH 32 with his brand new single '6 Words' taken from his upcoming new album due early next year. Once again Wretch shows his ability to colour and pioneer the sound of the UK's vibrant club scene. True to form, '6 Words' showcases Wretch's ability to combine impeccably produced beats with intelligent, genuine lyrics. Produced by SOS and mixed by Wilkinson (Ram Records), the track is heavily infused with UK drum & bass sounds and a gentle guitar riff which cradles Wretch's poignant sung vocal; the amalgamation is an authentic, uplifting track set to soar effortlessly across the UK airwaves. The video sees Wretch taking a sentimental look at his life and career so far in an honest and heartfelt way that shows where he's been and more importantly where he's going. '6 Words' and earlier tracks 'Doing OK' & 'Blackout' capture the mood and the essence Wretch is etching out on his forthcoming album. Wretch's key ingredients are, working with home-grown talent (most recently Jacob Banks on 'Doing OK' and Shakka on 'Blackout') and secondly his ability to foretell a humbling retrospective on ordinary life through his lyrics. Wretch 32's third studio album will be released in 2015. Add Rep and Leave a feedback Reputation is the green button in the down right corner on my post

  7. The corruption of SHIELD is on full display in these two short scenes cut from the theatrical version of the Russo Brothers' movie. Ahead of the home release ofCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, Marvel Studios has released two deleted scenes from the movie to remind you of a time when Marvel movies were slightly more grounded than reaching for the stars. Both scenes run a little over one minute in length, and demonstrate the extent of HYDRA’s infiltration of SHIELD, with Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and Agent 13 (Emily VanCamp) being faced with senior officers—including Robert Redford’s Alexander Pierce—issuing orders that go against their better natures. (Watch both scenes below.) Alongside Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America: The Winter Soldier cemented Marvel’s cinematic dominance this year, with the studio holding two of the top three box office openings of the year to date (Only Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction had a more successful opening than either, making $100 million in its first weekend against Cap’s $95 million and Guardians’ $94 million). The movie also managed to introduce two new characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and set up the climactic storyline of the first season of ABC's Agents of SHIELD TV series. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johanssonand Anthony Mackie, the movie will be released for digital download August 19, with the Blu-ray and DVD release following September 9.
  8. Lenovo, the world’s largest PC manufacturer, has been known in recent days for its acquisition of once Google-owned Motorola Mobility. Recent information gathered in post-Motorola sale days shows that Lenovo wanted Motorola as far back as last Fall, but certain complications prevented Lenovo’s ambitions from coming to fruition. Lenovo’s expressed its interest in not only PCs, but also smartphones and tablets, and the company’s introduced a few models at Mobile World Congress earlier this Spring. Now, Lenovo’s back to stick it to search engine giant Google once more – by creating a Google Glass opponent. Lenovo’s teaming up with smart glasses manufacturer Vuzix to bring the Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses directly to China for the first time. The M100 smart glasses will be co-branded, with the label “Vuzix 100 Smart Glasses powered by Lenovo NBD†and will include mapping, voice recognition, Chinese language(s), and local cloud-based services. The opportunity and time are ripe for Vuzix and Lenovo according to Vuzix CEO Paul Travers: “China is a significant milestone for us and for the wearable industry. Lenovo is world renowned for its high quality products and exceptional engineering, making them the most ideal partner with which to bring our M100 Smart Glasses to China…we hope the M100 is just the first in a line of future products the companies may introduce together incorporating Vuzix’ video eyewear technology for sale in China and perhaps elsewhere.†The Vuzix/Lenovo smart glasses will run Android 4.0.4 and be powered by a 1Ghz, dual-core processor. China customers will pay 8000 yuan ($1298USD) for a pair of Vuzix-Lenovo smart glasses.
  9. The makers of the popular file-sharing software Vuze have released a brand new BitTorrent client. Vuze Leap is a dummy-proof application with a simple interface, which uses minimal resources. According to the company there is a massive demand for a clean and straightforward BitTorrent client. Vuze is one of the most recognized BitTorrent brands. Their client is used by millions of people each day and has a steadily growing user-base. In recent years Vuze’s core BitTorrent client has evolved into an advanced download solution with every complex feature heavy BitTorrent users could wish for. The downside of being so complete is that the application can be quite overwhelming to newcomers. In addition the application is somewhat of a resource hog. The Vuze team has taken these complaints to heart and coded “Vuze Leap,†a brand new client that is both simple and lightweight. “We sought to deliver a simpler experience as a counterpart to the powerful, full-featured core Vuze BitTorrent Client that has pleased millions of users for years. Even with file-sharing being a part of internet usage for years, we continued to hear, from some users a desire to have a simpler experience that was less resource intensive,†Vuze’s Claude Tolbert tells TorrentFreak. Today the first Vuze Leap beta is unveiled to the public. The torrent client works out of the box. Users are presented with a big search box which they can use to search for torrents without having to leave the application. When a search term is entered, Vuze Leap will automatically search for matching content on Google, the Internet Archive and elsewhere. This can then be downloaded with a single click. After a download is completed users can play media files directly from the client, or navigate to the download folder as they would do with other torrent clients. Vuze Leap automatically categorizes files into various categories to keep the library organized. Vuze’s new BitTorrent client is best suited to less tech-savvy users who don’t necessarily need all the advanced features the core Vuze client has to offer. Through its simpler interface Vuze Leap should make BitTorrent more accessible to people who are new to torrents. “We believe that Vuze Leap extends usability to users who may be new to filesharing or don’t require the power and functionality that the core Vuze BitTorrent Client provides. However, both provide an outstanding experience to users,†Tolbert says. TorrentFreak tested the application and it works as advertised. It certainly feels much lighter and faster than the core Vuze client. The built-in search is handy as well, although users may have to scroll down to get the best search results, which often come from Google. The application is currently only available for Windows but support for other operating systems is expected to follow in the future. Those who are interested in taking Vuze Leap for a spin can download the latest beta release after signing up for the beta test. The download link comes with the confirmation email.
