  2. After the seized Megaupload and Megavideo domains ran malicious ads last month, there is more Mega domain strangeness to report. Various domain names which previously belonged to Kim Dotcom and his companies have expired and are now listed for sale, or were sold already. When Kim Dotcom’s mansion was raided early 2012, the U.S. Government targeted various domain names that were linked to the “Mega conspiracy.†While Megaupload and Megavideo were the most prominent targets, the indictment also listed,, and various other “Mega†domains. All the above sites were pulled offline as a result of the raids, and and displayed a banner informing visitors that the sites were under investigation. As reported previously, the banners vanished after the U.S. Department of Justice made a mistake, which also caused the seized Megaupload and Megavideo domains to run malicious ads. After uncovering these problems with the Megaupload and Megavideo domains, we noticed something else strange. The domain name was no longer listed as seized. In fact, the domain is now in use by another company that offers backup solutions, similar to what Megaupload planned. Baffled by this finding, we contacted the company behind the new backup service. They informed us that they are in no way affiliated with Kim Dotcom, Megaupload or its former employees. “We are an independent software startup with no affiliation to MegaUpload whatsoever,†a company spokesperson said. Instead, the new Megabackup simply bought the domain name through a broker after it had expired. “We have acquired this domain name through a reseller platform called ‘Sedo’ about a year ago, simply because this name looked interesting and suitable for the backup software we make.†Megabackup is not the only domain that expired. The same happened to, and The latter is currently on sale for a cool $35,000. HugeDomains, the company currently selling, informed us that they scooped up the domain after it had expired. “When the domain was not renewed by the owner after expiration, HugeDomains acquired the domain when it became publicly available on January 22, 2015,†the company informed us. So has the U.S. Department of Justice made another mistake by letting these domains slip out of their hands? Well, not so fast. While the domain names are all linked to Megaupload and mentioned in the indictment, those on sale were not officially seized unlike many others. This means that anyone could have picked them up, which has also happened to Kim Dotcom’s domain. Commenting on the situation Dotcom informs us that the domains were not supposed to expire. “This should not have happened,†he says, adding that someone else in his team handled the registrations.
  3. Popcorn Time captured the minds of millions of movie, TV and anime pirates over the past year, but there's one group of video enthusiasts who felt left out. The porn fans. A new Popcorn Time fork named Porn Time is now aiming to fill this hole. “The Internet Is For Porn,†is a phrase commonly heard in popular culture. While there are plenty of other uses, it’s true that the adult industries are early adopters of many Internet related technologies, from online payments to streaming services. Porn also contributed to the early popularity of BitTorrent, where adult videos and pictures were often among the most shared files. With this in mind, it’s odd that one of the newest piracy revelations completely ignored the genre. “How can it be, that Popcorn Time has been around for over a year and no one has made Popcorn Time for PORN? Since everyone knows that the Internet is for porn,†Porn Time developer Richard tells TF. Faced with this short-coming, Richard decided to pick up the gauntlet and fill this gaping hole. First on his own, and later with help from several other developers. Fast forward a few weeks and the application is ready to go out to the public. “We’re proud to officially release Porn Time, the first Popcorn Time for porn movies,†Richard says. Porn Time is based on existing Popcorn Time code and works in a similar fashion to other forks. It uses BitTorrent under the hood and works on most popular platforms. In addition, the streams can be cast directly to the big screen with Chromecast, Airplay or DLNA. The torrents are pulled from the Pornleech tracker but the team hopes to add more sources in the future to expand the library. Staying true to the Popcorn Time philosophy the application is completely open source. This allows other developers to contribute, or start their own forks. “Porn Time is released as an open source project, and we’re setting up Gitlab on our servers, since we’re pretty sure Github won’t allow us to run the project in their hub,†Richard says. Since Porn Time relies on peer-to-peer technology, the loading speed of the clips mainly depends own how well-seeded the torrents are. But with porn, this is usually not a problem.

  5. With more than 100,000 downloads on the first day alone, the non-jailbreak Popcorn Time app has already gained a massive audience. Today the developers behind the popular application released a Mac installer for the iOS app, hoping to conquer even more devices. A few weeks ago the fork surprised friend and foe by releasing a hack that allows anyone with an iPhone or iPad to install the iOS version of the popular app. Popcorn Time was already available on jailbroken iOS devices. However, the developers say that the app really took off when they released the Windows installer for non-jailbreak iOS devices. “On April 8th, the day of the release, Popcorn Time broke all previous records and was installed on more than 100,000 iOS devices in one day,†the Popcorn Time teams informs us. “None of the other releases we had since we picked up Popcorn Time evoked such a reaction. We literally stared at the numbers for hours,†they add. Today comes another big push as the Mac version of the installer has just been released. It works in a similar manner to the Windows version and allows people to install the Popcorn Time app in just a few clicks. With a Mac installer the Popcorn Time team soon hopes to welcome their millionth download for iOS. Despite the iOS surge Android remains the most popular platform for the fork at the moment. For a brief moment iOS was in second place, but it’s now back in third after Windows. The Popcorn Time developers think that after the iOSInstaller becomes public, so it can also be used for other apps, the popularity will rise again. “Now it’s #3 but we expect this figure to change once again when the team officially launches their app store which will be a ‘must use’ for all iOS users out there,†the Popcorn Time team says. With the iOS installers Popcorn Time is becoming an even bigger target. For Apple, but mostly for the movie studios who don’t want people to watch their content without paying for it. Last week the UK High Court ordered local ISPs to block the websites of several Popcorn Time forks including This renders the application useless locally, at least for those who haven’t found a workaround yet.
  6. Some have already noticed, right now we are on a week-old backup. Please hold on before uploading lots of torrents and stuff. Our main webserver has gone unpaid. We are working on trying to get it renewed, hopefully before it is wiped. Then we will switch back to that one, since it will be 1 day old, instead of 1 week Until then, we have restored this backup so that we at least have a working site, and dont have an unexpectedly long amount of downtime like last time. The site, tracker, and irc bot is now all working on backup server!

  8. Starting today Canadian Internet providers are required to forward copyright infringement notices to their subscribers. This notification scheme provides a safe harbor for ISPs but is also expected to result in a surge in piracy settlement schemes. The new law further causes trouble for VPN providers, who are now required to log customers for at least six months. pirate-runningAfter years of public and private discussions, Canada started implementing a new copyright law in recent years. The law introduced great improvements in terms of fair use and non-commercial file-sharing, and also adopts a “notice-and-notice†policy for ISPs that goes into effect today, January 2nd. Under the new law Internet providers are required to forward copyright notices they receive from rightsholders to their customers. Providers who do not comply, including VPN services, face damages up to $10,000. The notice scheme creates a safe harbor for Internet providers, protecting them from copyright holder lawsuits. For Internet subscribers the effects are limited to warnings, which is less draconian than the “strikes†systems other countries have implemented. University of Ottawa professor Michael Geist, who has been a critical follower of the copyright law changes, notes that despite its modesty people should be wary of the negative consequences these notices may have. “I think they’re generally a good solution – proven effective when used informally and far less draconian than takedown systems. That said, there is the danger of potential abuse that will be need to be monitored,†Geist tells TF. Among the most prominent concerns are the so-called settlement schemes where copyright holders ask pirating subscribers to pay a fee. These have become relatively common in the U.S. and are now expected to expand into Canada. One of the companies that helps rightsholders to collect settlements is CEG TEK, and they are already gearing up to enter the Canadian market. “We have been conducting tests in the Canada market and see positive results with ISPs. We look forward to a full-scale launch in the new year,†CEG TEK’s COO Kyle Reed informs TF. These settlement notices are a “significant concern†according to Professor Geist. He says that the law currently doesn’t prohibit copyright holders from sending them in, but that subscribers’ identities are shielded. “The law does not preclude the inclusion of a settlement demand, though Canada has a cap on liability for non-commercial infringement and the sender of the notice obviously does not know the identity of the subscriber,†Geist tells TF “ISPs would seemingly be required to send these notifications, but there is nothing in the law that would stop them from advising subscribers on the context of these notices,†he adds. The new notice-and-notice system also has a great impact on VPN providers. The new law requires them to identify pirating customers so they can forward the infringement notices. To be able to do so the companies have to retain access logs for a minimum of six months. This mandatory data retention is expected to lead to a customer exodus as it makes it impossible for providers to guarantee people’s anonymity, a key feature of any VPN service. As we pointed out before, the new law requires VPN providers to implement an extensive logging and notice policy to deal with takedown notices. This will prove to be quite costly or simply impossible, especially for smaller companies that are sometimes run by individuals. Many VPN providers assign shared IP-addresses to their customers, so even if they wanted to there is no option to accurately identify a copyright infringer. For these companies the only option will be to shut down, or move the company outside of Canada. During the months to come it will become apparent what impact the notice-and-notice system will have on businesses and customers.

  10. Former Pirate Bay operator Fredrik Neij is currently jailed in Sweden after being captured in Thailand last month. However, according to leaked emails, the MPAA believes that the Swede could also face hacking related charges - and it doesn't stop there. One by one the key players behind The Pirate Bay have been captured by police and forced to complete jail sentences previously determined by Swedish authorities. The most recently detained was Fredrik Neij, a key player in the operations of The Pirate Bay right from the very early days of the site. After realizing that his fate in Sweden involved a 10 month jail sentence, Neij fled to Laos in Asia where he lived until recently with this young family. He traveled from Laos into bordering Thailand on many occasions but last month his luck ran out. On November 4, immigration police announced that Neij had been detained while crossing the border into Nong Khai, a city in North-East Thailand. What followed was a very public press conference in which a bewildered looking Neij was paraded before the media while flanked by several officers. But while the rest of the world had to wait until November 4 to hear the news, leaked emails obtained by TorrentFreak show that the Hollywood studios knew about things well in advance. In an email dated the day before Neij’s arrest was made public, the MPAA advised chiefs at Disney, Paramount, Sony, Warner Bros, NBC Universal and FOX of the Swede’s arrest. But things went deeper than that. Already there had been rumors in Thai media that “U.S. movie companies†had hired a lawfirm to track down Neij and that a house on the island of Phuket plus a bank account containing five million baht ($153,000) had been discovered. Emails seen by TF confirm the MPAA’s involvement, but also that they didn’t want that noticed in public. “Jan Van Voorn [MPA’s Regional Director for Content Protection] and Neil Gane [former policeman, former AFACT boss, now MPA APIC chief in Asia] are in contact with both Swedish and Thai authorities providing additional assistance,†the email reveals. “Thai Immigration is planning a press conference for tomorrow, November 4. We have alerted our Communications Section, and do not plan to comment to the media.†Another email confirmed the MPA’s intention to lie low, but that it might already be too late to hide any involvement. “Huge win! Don’t know if hackers will retaliate,†an email from a studio begins. “MPA is laying low and quiet, but the pirate blogs are attributing the pursuit to movie studios.†While a brash affair, the press conference itself revealed few details of Neij’s actual arrest other than the time, place, and what he was wearing. However, the correspondence the MPAA had with the studios reveals they knew quite a bit more. Holding a long-standing belief that Neij was somehow still associated with the running of The Pirate Bay, in 2011 the studios obtained a beefed-up injunction which banned the Swede from being involved with the site. Not only has their mindset remained the same for three years, but the studios also believe that Neij could be on the hook for other offenses too. “Neij is facing a 10 month prison sentence in Sweden for his conviction in the Pirate Bay case. Neij may also face new charges for his continuing role in the operation of TPB and two additional charges for computer hacking,†the emails read. No additional details on any hacking charges were provided or have been released since, but the MPAA are hopeful that items taken from Neij when he was arrested will provide the clues. “Two laptop computers were seized from Neij at the time of his arrest, and may provide additional evidence against Neij and others in the ongoing TPB investigation in Sweden,†the MPAA writes. While an investigation into The Pirate Bay is now obvious following the raid two weeks ago, another MPAA email confirms that a criminal referral was also made against “TPB co-founder Frederik Neij and his ISP DCP Networks.†Fredrik Neij is currently serving his 10 month Pirate Bay related sentence in a Swedish jail but his arrival there from Thailand was never announced publicly. He is the third key Pirate Bay operational figure to be jailed. Gottfrid Svartholm was the first to be detained after authorities in Cambodia handed him over to Swedish police in 2012. Gottfrid completed his sentence but is currently detained in Denmark following an unrelated hacking case. Peter Sunde was captured by a special police unit on a farm in Sweden during the summer of 2014. Sunde served his sentence and is now a free man, probably traveling around Europe. With the imprisonment of Fredrik Neij the MPAA now have the full set, an achievement they were happy to pat themselves on the back for. “Another excellent example of global cooperation and coordination between our content protection hubs,†a November email concludes.

  12. The team have decided to give an early Christmas present to Pirate Bay fans. They've launched "The Open Bay," an initiative that allows anyone to put a 'copy' of The Pirate Bay online, minimal technical knowledge required. The Pirate Bay raid last week was a landmark incident which disrupted the BitTorrent ecosystem. Many people have been looking for Pirate Bay alternatives in recent days. While there is nothing that can match the old Pirate Bay, there are plenty of copies available. Earlier this week the TPB crew said that it would be a good thing to have clones of the site all over the Internet, and it appears that the team heard this message loud and clear. The same team that previously resurrected isoHunt launched a copy of TPB on last week, and now they’re opening up its code to the public. The initiative, properly named The Open Bay, opens up the source to their Pirate Bay clone. This means that in a few simple steps anyone can have a copy of the Pirate Bay installed on his or her own domain. “We, the team that brought you and are bringing you the next step in torrent evolution. Open Pirate Bay source code,† says. According to the people behind “The Open Bay†there’s a lesson to be learned from the isoHunt and Pirate Bay shutdowns. Instead of a few big players, the torrent community itself should be a swarm of copies. “We want to change the torrent landscape which has been frozen for 10 years. We need to push it ahead,† tells TF. “The Open Pirate Bay source code will give absolutely anyone with minimal knowledge of how the Internet and websites work and some basic hosting, the opportunity to create a pirate bay copy on his own domain.†To do so, the team offers code and scripts and a large database dump with instructions to get it up and running on a simple shared hosting account. In addition, they put all files in a GitHub repository so people can create improved copies of their copy. We have to emphasize that the term Pirate Bay “copy†should be used loosely here. The standard release includes’s theme and a database dump of roughly 8 million torrent links, while Pirate Bay only had around 3 million. The difference is explained by the fact that The Open Bay database also includes files that originated from KickassTorrents and The original Pirate Bay code or descriptions are not there, and it’s not possible to upload or comment either. Finally, it may go without saying but people should keep in mind that hosting a Pirate Bay copy comes with a legal risk. Whether the surge in Pirate Bay copies is really a good development is open to debate, but we’ll examine this topic in an upcoming article. For those who want a local copy of The Pirate Bay’s archive for historical purposes there’s a safer option. A recent dump of the files database, complete with all original pirate bay IDs, torrent descriptions and hashes is available here. Torrent savvy people who know how magnet links work can even use the latter as a local Pirate Bay search engine, with the help of notepad.
  13. Popular sandbox game comes to yet another platform. Microsoft, the new owner and operator of the Minecraft franchise (that's still somewhat weird to write), today released the Windows Phone version of the popular sandbox game. It's available now to download from the Windows Store for $7, the same price as the iOS and Android Pocket Editions. The Windows Phone version of Minecraft comes with everything found in the other mobile versions, including Survival mode, Creative mode, and multiplayer over Wi-Fi. Notably, however, the game is only playable on Windows Phones running 8.1. Microsoft, in one of the biggest game industry news events of the year, acquired Minecraft and developer Mojang in September for $2.5 billion. As part of the deal, three of Mojang's founders, including creator Markus "Notch" Persson, left the studio. With its release today for Windows Phones, Minecraft is now essentially available on all major, modern platforms. The game is already available for PC, Mac, Linux, Raspberry Pi, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, iOS, and Android. For more on the Windows Phone version of Minecraft, check out the image gallery below.
  14. Early details emerge as streamers begin to record playthroughs. Destiny's first major expansion, The Dark Below, has now gone live in the west. Players based in North America and Europe can log in to access the premium add-on content, which costs $20 (£20). New details show that Eris Morn, an NPC vendor, is the new point of contact for the expansion, offering special bounty missions and vanity items. Morn--who stands at the Tower's main plaza--sells shaders, emblems, cloaks, and warlock bonds, as well as other materials. Players also have a new reputation to be aware of, Crota's Bane, which must be accumulated (by completing bounties) in order to have the chance to buy Morn's items. Meanwhile, a new six-player raid, called Crota's End, is now available for fireteams to conquer. A host of streamers have already begun to play through the game on Twitch (video embedded below). The Dark Below marks the first of what is expected to be multiple expansions for Destiny. It is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. More details of the expansion, which includes new story missions, can be found below. New weapons, armour, and gear to further customise your Guardian. The ability to increase your Light level to 32, and five additional bounty slots. Three new competitive multiplayer maps: Pantheon, Skyshock, and The Cauldron. New cooperative Strike: The Will of Crota. Purge a twisted horror from the Cosmodrome. An additional resident of the Tower: Eris, a resolute survivor of an ill-fated mission. And a new six-player Raid: Crota’s End. Face him in the deepest dark. Some exclusive content is also coming to the PS4 edition.
  15. Google adds games to its Knowledge Graph. If you Google search a video game, Google's Knowledge Graph will now offer more details related to that game, like its release date, developer, publisher, and more. If you search for Civilization: Beyond Earth, for example, you'll see a panel on the right with screenshots from the game, its Metacritic score, a short description via Wikipedia, the series it belongs to, and what platforms it's available for. The search works for both specific game titles and game series. First introduced in 2012, Google's Knowledge Graph enhances searches by offering these summaries of movies, books, places, people, food, and more. Video games are just the latest addition. “We always want to help people find the best answers to their questions – fast,†a Google spokesperson told VentureBeat. “With today’s update, you can ask questions about video games, and (while there will be ones we don’t cover) you’ll get answers for console and PC games as well as the most popular mobile apps.†Add Rep and Leave a feedback Reputation is the green button in the down right corner on my post
  16. Taylor Swift had to 'plead' with her record label to release a pop album. The singer is gearing up for the release of 1989, marking her official debut as a pop artist. She says fans can expect a stark contrast from her early country music days. And she opened up to UK newspaper The Sun about the uphill battle she faced making the switch. 'The decision came directly from me. I had to plead my case with everyone and certain people at the record label. I had to really campaign and get everyone on my side,' she said. 'I showed them that I was doing this for all the right reasons and that this was the creative decision and artistically there was no other option than to boldly hone this album for what it is. 'I had to convince my Nashville record label president it was right for me. I presented the album to him and he said, 'It's great, it's the best thing you've ever done but can you put two country songs on it?'" Taylor refused. Eventually her persistence paid off, and executives couldn't be happier. 'He's happy as a clown now as we then got our first Hot 100 number one with Shake It Off,' she gushed. Now the star can't wait for others to hear the record, scheduled for release next month. 'I'm excited about my new album. It physically pains me that it's not out yet - I just want the whole world to hear it. There is not one song that I skip when I play it,' she said. 17. CD Projekt Red's upcoming RPG launches in February 2015 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Right on schedule, Polish developer CD Projekt Red today released the intro cinematic for next year's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It's brutal (there's horse decapitation and a bird that mangles someone's face) and quite impressive. Check out the full video above. Here is how CD Projekt Red sets up the video, which it calls "The Trail": "Foreshadowing the story of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, 'The Trail' opening cinematic is an epic sneak peek into the adventure that awaits gamers in Wild Hunt. See witchers Geralt of Rivia and his mentor Vesemir pursue Geralt's long lost love, the immensely powerful, raven-black-haired sorceress-- Yennefer of Vengerberg." 19. Last month Seattle-based photographer Christopher Boffoli sued Imgur claiming the popular image hosting site had failed to remove a few dozen of his photos. Before the case gets well underway the photographer is facing a much bigger problem, as 20,754 of his photos are now being shared on The Pirate Bay. When it comes to online piracy most attention usually goes out to music, TV-shows and movies. However, photos are arguably the most-infringed works online. Virtually every person on the Internet has shared a photo without obtaining permission from its maker, whether through social networks, blogs or other services. While most photographers spend little time on combating piracy, Seattle-based artist Christopher Boffoli has taken some of the largest web services to court for aiding these infringements Boffoli has filed lawsuits against Twitter, Google and others, which were settled out for court under undisclosed terms. Last month he started a new case against popular image sharing site Imgur after it allegedly ignored his takedown requests. The photographer asked the court to order an injunction preventing Imgur from making 73 of his photos available online. In addition, he requested millions of dollars in statutory damages for willful copyright infringement. Imgur has yet to file an official reply to the complaint. In the meantime, however, Boffoli’s actions appear to have triggered another less welcome response. A few days ago a user of The Pirate Bay decided to upload a rather large archive of the photographer’s work to the site. The archive in question is said to hold 20,754 images, including the most famous “Big Appetites†series. A torrent with 20,754 images The image archive, which is more than eight gigabytes in size, had to be partly wrapped in an .iso file because otherwise the .torrent file itself would have been too large. The description of the archive mentions Boffoli’s recent actions against Imgur, which could have triggered the upload. One of the commenters points out that the Imgur lawsuit may have done more harm than good, and a new Internet meme was born. “Sued for 73 images, got 20,754 uploaded to TPB, LOL. About the Big Appetites series, if I ever get my hands on a copy, I’ll scan it at 600 dpi and upload it here, have fun trying to censor the internet, Boffoli,†the commenter notes. TorrentFreak asked Boffoli for a comment on the leak and whether he will take steps to prevent the distribution, but we have yet to hear back. While not everyone may agree with the lawsuit against Imgur piracy can impact photographers quite a bit. It’s usually not the average Pirate Bay user that’s causing the damage though, but rather companies that use professional photos commercially without a license. 20. The Pokemon Company launches "Camp Pokemon"; it teaches you the basics of becoming a Pokemon Trainer. The Pokemon Company has released a brand new spinoff game called Camp Pokemon, available today as a free download for iOS devices. Camp Pokemon, like its name suggests, is aimed to children. Players will virtually travel to Camp Pokemon and take part in all manner of Pokemon-themed activities to help them become Pokemon Trainers. Some of the activities in Camp Pokemon include mini-games focused on how to find Pokemon and throw Poke Balls to catch them. For completing activities, players will earn Pokemon Pins for their virtual pin book, as well as various rewards that unlock new levels of activities. Camp Pokemon also features a virtual photo booth where players can take and save photos of themselves using their iPhone or iPad camera. They can then decorate these photos with Pokemon-themed stickers that are earned through gameplay. You can download Camp Pokemon today through this link. A trailer is available above. 21. Casey Hudson posts image of Oculus Rift headset with the caption: "It begins." When Mass Effect director Casey Hudson announced his departure from BioWare in August, he said he was preparing to "take on a new set of challenges" for his next endeavor. Now, he's hinted that what's next on his plate could involve the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. Hudson posted an image on Twitter of an Oculus Rift headset with the caption: "It begins." He also mentioned @Oculus in the tweet, which featured the hashtag #VR. It certainly sounds like whatever Hudson is doing next will involve VR, but he hasn't announced any official plans and or tweeted again since the initial tease. There are a number of possibilities regarding what Hudson's tweet might mean, the first of which is that he is working on a game/app/experience using Oculus Rift. It's also possible that he's joined Oculus VR itself, though the Facebook-owned company tends to herald high-profile new hires with official announcements, and none have been made so far about Hudson. We'll continue to monitor the story as it develops. What are you hoping Hudson's vague tweet is in reference to? Let us know in the comments. 22. NewEgg offering quite a nice deal right now on Sony's latest console through eBay. Online retailer NewEgg is currently selling PlayStation 4s on auction site eBay for $360, representing a nice savings of $40 over the console's normal $400 asking price. Shipping is free. According to the page, only a "limited quantity" of PS4 units at the discounted price are available. More than 400 have been sold since the promotion went live. The deal ends on Monday, October 27, or presumably when stock runs out. NewEgg's special PS4 deal is for the standard black console, not the white Destiny bundle. You're buying a brand-new PS4, which comes with the system, a DualShock 4 controller, an HDMI cable, a mono headset, and all power and charging cables. The PS4 celebrates its first birthday next month. The system has sold more than 10 million systemsworldwide as of August, which is beyond Sony's expectations for the console. Most recently, the NPD Group announced last week that the PS4 maintained its lead over the Xbox One in the United States during September. 23. Video showcases how the small device can pause and rewind live TV, as well as stream video to phones and tablets. Microsoft has launched its digital TV Tuner for Xbox One across the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. The miniature peripheral receives TV signals from a coaxial cable (the old-fashioned wires used to air free terrestrial TV) and feeds that into the Xbox One via USB connection, though the console will need to be powered on in order to watch it. The Xbox One Digital TV Tuner costs £25 in the UK The tuner adds several key features to the traditional Freeview experience. First, Live Pause, which allows users to freeze live TV for up to thirty minutes, as well as rewind and fast-forward footage. Owners can play their games while Live Pause is activated too. Second, the OneGuide offers a basic panel of TV listings to peruse with either the controller or Kinect (although, how effective voice commands are remains to be seen). The OneGuide is available either as a full-screen menu or an in-picture window, the latter of which allows users to browse other channels while watching one station. Third, the peripheral uses SmartGlass to stream video from the Xbox One to connected devices on a user's home network. This can also be done while playing games on the Xbox One, with television being processed in the background. (At the time of going to press, connected devices included Windows phones and tablets, as well as iOS devices, with Android support "coming soon"). As well as this, users can watch TV via Snap Mode, which fixes a small picture in a column on the right-hand-side of the screen while something else is displayed in the main picture. The TV Tuner arrives nearly a full year after the Xbox One's UK launch. The peripheral costs £25. Add Rep and Leave a feedback Reputation is the green button in the down right corner on my post
  24. String of patches and updates help restore the game's online network; Release date for PS Plus Edition still unclear. Evolution Studios, the studio ultimately responsible for the prolonged connection problems affectingDriveclub, has said that the "majority" of the game's players will now be able to connect online. Driveclub's launch two weeks ago was marred by severe connection problems due to errors within the game's netcode. Many players were unable to play the game online, while the free PS Plus edition has been delayed. Representatives for Evolution have since been proactive in engaging with the community, frequently updating its Facebook fan page and releasing several patches to help restore connections. On Saturday, the studio suggested it had overcome one major hurdle, writing: "We're still improving server performance to get all of you enjoying full online connectivity together, but the majority of Driveclub players should now be able to connect and play online." It added: "We will continue to keep you informed as we make progress and we know we've said this before but we mean it: We know how frustrating it is when you can't get connected and we feel it too. We are working flat out to get online sign-in, multiplayer racing and leaderboards running smoothly for everyone, all of the time." Prior to the release of Driveclub, Evolution and Sony had agreed to release a free abridged version of the game to PS Plus subscribers. However, due to the online connection problems, coupled with the likelihood that a surge of new players would make matters worse, Sony decided to postpone the PS Plus edition. It is still unclear when the PS Plus edition will be released. Evolution Studios hasn't ruled out compensating those affected by the connection problems. 25. 2K Sports release "completely reinvented" mobile version of the professional basketball game today for $8. Following NBA 2K15's release last week for consoles and PC, 2K Sports today launched a mobile version of game, letting you bring the pro basketball title with you wherever you go. The $8 "premium" game is available today for iOS and Amazon devices. The mobile version of NBA 2K15 was developed in-house at Visual Concepts (the same team that made the console and PC versions), and 2K is calling it a "completely reinvented" game. Though the graphics might not be as good as they are on consoles and PC, 2K says NBA 2K15 for mobile devices will deliver the "most true-to-life NBA experience" ever made for mobile devices. The Pharrell Williams-curated soundtrack will appear in the mobile version, which also features a new "quick game" mode and a full MyCareer mode. NBA 2K15 for mobile devices also features support for physical controllers. If you're sticking with the on-board virtual controller, you have three pre-set sizes to choose from, 2K said. The game is available today for iOS devices, including iPhone 5+, iPad 4+, and iPad mini2+. The game will not run on earlier devices. NBA 2K is also compatible with various Amazon devices, such as Amazon Fire phone, Fire HDX 8.9", and Kindle Fire HDX tablets. The game is coming "soon" to Fire TV. There was no mention of a release for the game on regular Android devices. Today's release of NBA 2K15 for mobile devices adds to the game's growing list of platforms, which already included Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.
