  3. Are you located in China, running a pirate version of Windows 7 or Windows 8 but fancy a shiny new version of Windows 10 instead? Well, your luck is in as Microsoft says it will give even the most piratical of Chinese users an upgrade copy of its next operating system for the bargain price of absolutely free. The Chinese are known for duplicating just about anything, from entire Apple stores to some of the world’s most famous cars. Nevertheless and seemingly against the odds, easily copied items are doing well through official channels. China reportedly fueled record global box-office revenues in 2014 and even has official Hollywood movies available online before they air in the United States, ostensibly to beat piracy. And today brings yet more good news for Chinese citizens who prefer not to pay for their content. When it arrives later in the year, Microsoft are going to gift free upgrades of Windows 10 not only to those who purchased Windows 7 and Windows 8, but also to those who pirated them. Speaking from the WinHEC technology conference in Shenzhen, China, Terry Myerson, who runs Microsoft’s operating systems unit, said the plan was aimed at bringing the currently non-paying back on board. “We are upgrading all qualified PCs, genuine and non-genuine, to Windows 10,†Myerson told Reuters. “The plan is to ‘re-engage’ with the hundreds of millions of users of Windows in China,†he said. In January this year Microsoft said it would offer free upgrades of Windows 10 to legitimate users of Windows 7 and Windows 8 but this is the first time that pirates will be given an official free pass. The big question now is how this news will be received in the West. In the United States, for example, pirate users of Windows 7 and 8 will be expected to pay top dollar for Microsoft’s newest OS if they too want to jump aboard the legit train. That may raise hackles. However, the fact that Chinese pirate users will get a free upgrade of Windows 10 could open up avenues for Western pirates to masquerade as their Eastern counterparts in order to avoid paying. Exactly how that will play out will remain to be seen, but it’s more than likely that a ‘pirate’ solution will be found, one way or another. In the meantime many pirates will remain with their current operating system until a stable version of Windows 10 becomes available, whether that hails from China or elsewhere.

  5. Kevin Hart's 2014 brought us the not inconsiderable roster of Ride Along, Grudge Match, About Last Night, Think Like A Man Too and Top Five. And while his 2015 isn't looking quite so crowded, it will at the very least unveil Ride Along 2, The Wedding Ringer and Get Hard. To prepare you, the latest trailer for the latter has just arrived online. Be warned: you will see Will Ferrell naked.] Cursory inspection of Get Hard suggests similarities to the woeful Rob Schneider vehicle Big Stan(con undertakes a toughening-up programme prior to a stint in jail) and to that unfortunate recent series of films that use the trope of middle class white people getting black people to teach them to be criminals (Horrible Bosses, Tower Heist). Thankfully, however, Get Hard reveals, even in its trailer, that there's more going on here. The premise is Ferrell's own mistaken assumptions about Hart's character, who has never committed a crime or set foot in a prison in his life. Etan Cohen, the writer of Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder and Men In Black 3, penned Get Hard's screenplay and has also made it his directorial debut. He's currently deep in post-production, and we'll see the results of his labours in the UK on March 27.
  6. We saw the first trailer a couple of months ago. Now here's a trio of new Focus posters and a brand new trailer (see below) to answer all your run-up-to-Christmas Will Smith and Margot Robbie needs. The caper sees Smith playing a con artist getting romantically involved with Robbie's novice grifter, only for the partnership to sour. Flash-forward in time, and our hero is setting up an elaborate heist in Buenos Aires when the owner of an international racing team (300's Rodrigo Santoro) hires him to help gain an edge over the competition. But when Robbie shows up again, both men compete for her affections and the love triangle’s sharp edges start to cut… Crazy, Stupid, Love directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa wrote the script and are once again behind the cameras, this time in New Orleans and Buenos Aires. Focus is scheduled for release on February 27.
  7. Legendary fighting celebrity Bruce Lee, considered to be the father of mixed martial arts though he never actually fought competitively, is now a free character for all EA Sports UFC players. All five version of Lee (see below) are now free to download through January 5, 2015 on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network in North America, while all other regions get him tomorrow. Bruce Lee -- Bantamweight Division Bruce Lee -- Featherweight Division Bruce Lee -- Lightweight Division Bruce Lee -- Welterweight Division Bruce Lee -- Weightclass Bundle (all four divisions) News that Lee would appear in EA Sports UFC for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 broke in April, with some immediately scoffing at the move, pointing out that Lee never fought any real fights. This is true, but his daughter, Shannon Lee, told us in an interview that this doesn't matter because video games are fantasy. EA Sports UFC was recently added to EA's subscription service, EA Access, meaning all members who pay $5/month or $30/year can now play the game as much as they want. 10. Rudimental and Gorgon City played back-to-back last night at #FlightDecks, entertaining an audience of thousands of fans across the world as they performed the first ever gig to be live streamed over the Atlantic Ocean. The UK chart toppers wowed an exclusive audience of super fans and VIPs on the inaugural flight of the new Virgin Atlantic 787 from London to Atlanta. Thousands tuned in from around the world to enjoy the gig from the comfort of their own homes as it became the first to be live streamed via Wi-Fi whilst the 787 was flying over the heart of the Atlantic Ocean. Spinning their decks in the newly designed Upper Class bar and walking up and down the aisles of the 787, Rudimental treated fans to renditions of their two number one hit singles 'Feel The Love' and 'Waiting All Night.' Performing on the plane with live vocalists and horns, Rudimental played back-to-back with 'Ready For Your Love' hit-makers Gorgon City in a DJ collaboration at 35,000 feet above the Atlantic. The inaugural flight made history, with DJ Locksmith taking to the PA system early on encouraging everyone to get out of their seats and enjoy the party atmosphere on-board. The final set started with both bands walking the length of the plane accompanied by trumpet players and live vocalists as fans and guests sang along to some of their greatest hits. Amir Amor of Rudimental said: 'What a buzz. Having all the band together, playing to thousands of people around the world from the bar on a plane, you can't put a price on that. It's an experience we will never forget. We have a lot of respect for Gorgon City. They make great music. So it was a big bonus to be able to play with them at such a memorable gig.' Fans of Rudimental and Gorgon City can listen to the full #FlightDecks set list at now. Add Rep and Leave a feedback Reputation is the green button in the down right corner on my post

  13. Adele reportedly wants to ensure her new record is perfect in every way. The 26-year-old singer hasn't released an LP since her Grammy-winning 2011 offering 21. But according to songwriter Diane Warren, who has worked with Cher, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion in the past, Adele is working hard on crafting the perfect sounds for her third studio album. 'I flew to London to work on new stuff with Adele last year,' Diane told UK newspaper The Sun. 'We did some great songs but I don't know if they've made the record. I don't think anybody does. 'She has a mind of her own. Nobody rushes Adele or makes decisions for her, which is probably why she's a great artist. She wants to get it right.' In 2011 Adele underwent surgery to remove a polyp from her vocal chords. Apparently the procedure went so well, her voice remains flawless as she records tracks for her forthcoming LP. 'She was singing her a*s off when I was in the studio. Her voice was spectacular,' Diane noted. Adele is said to have been working with a number of famed musicians on the highly secretive album. UK newspaper The Mirror previously reported Adele is hitting the studio once again with the help of One Republic rocker Ryan Tedder, who's written hits for Beyonce Knowles and Leona Lewis. 'She is delighted to have such a talented writer and performer working with her and for Ryan it is a massive privilege,' a source told the outlet. The pair were reportedly been holed up in Air Studios in Hampstead, North London for a good portion of the summer. 14. Beyonce Knowles has reportedly asked Jay Z to take better care of his health. The 33-year-old singer is said to be worried about her husband's weight and has apparently asked him to consider a diet following their On The Run tour. It's suggested the singing queen thinks her spouse could slim down by about 20lbs. 'She's so over his size and thinks it's ridiculous that he doesn't take care of his health,' a source claimed to the American edition of OK! magazine. Apparently the songstress is primarily concerned about the health issues Jay may face if he does not tone up. She is said to have put the pressure on the 44-year-old to lose weight immediately. 'She's worried about his cholesterol, his blood pressure, everything, and wants him to lose weight urgently,' according to the insider. Beyonce's own performances are notoriously high energy. Jay, on the other hand, keeps things low key and is 'very inactive'. She feels her love spends too much time in the studio or office. He did attempt a vegan diet with her in 2013, but the insider is claiming that he didn't do it properly. The couple decided to ditch animal products for 22 days around his birthday in December, with Jay telling fans all about their new eating plan via his blog. "It was surprisingly easier on me than I thought,' he enthused at the time. "Why now? There's something spiritual to me about it being my 44th birthday and the serendipity behind the number of days in this challenge; 22 (2+2=4) coupled with the fact that the challenge ends on Christmas day. It just feels right!' Add Rep and Leave a feedback Reputation is the green button in the down right corner on my post

  16. Demo coming on Tuesday won't be freely available on the 3DS eShop. The playable demo of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire arrives Tuesday, October 21, but it will--for whatever reason--not be freely available on the 3DS eShop. To download it, you'll need to first obtain a code to download this "Special Demo Version" of the game through one of several ways. Some of these methods guarantee you a code (provided supplies last), like buying certain games on the eShop, while others are pretty much banking on luck. Curiously for a demo of a pair of games that launch in November, some of these options won't present themselves until November (or December, in one case). Courtesy of Nintendo's website, here are your six ways of securing a code: Codes will be distributed at select cinema locations nationwide from Nov. 7-Nov. 13 (while supplies last). Check with your local retailer during the holidays to find out about special demo code giveaways (while supplies last). Get a code with your purchase of the new Pokemon Art Academy game (out Oct. 24) when you buy from Nintendo eShop on your Nintendo 3DS or 2DS system. You'll also get a code with your purchase of one of two classic Pokemon games coming to the Virtual Console service on Nintendo eShop: the Pokemon Puzzle Challenge game (out Nov. 6) or the Pokemon Trading Card Game (out Nov. 13). You'll find your free demo code on your eShop receipt (download codes available while supplies last). Codes will be emailed the week of Oct. 31 to select Nintendo customers with Nintendo Network IDs who have signed up to receive promotional emails from Nintendo. Codes will also be distributed during the holiday mall tour from Nov. 24-Dec. 21 at 16 different locations throughout the nation. Talk to a staff member to try out Pokemon Omega Ruby, Pokemon Alpha Sapphire or any of the featured Nintendo 3DS games to receive two codes—one for you, and one for a friend (while supplies last). Unfortunately, there weren't any specifics offered regarding which movie theaters or retailers would offer the demo codes. The company said it would announce locations for the mall tour "soon." We do know that demo players will get access to "exclusive scenarios in the Hoenn region," the setting forPokemon Ruby/Sapphire and their respective remakes. Certain progress can be transferred from the demo version to the full games, launching November 21. This includes certain items and a Mega-Evolved version of a "familiar" Pokemon. 'We've got a good combination of tracks but some of the lovely ballads that I've always wanted to do never fitted the criteria of a Status Quo rock show,' Rick Parfitt said. 18. Respawn confirms launch date for third and final expansion for multiplayer shooter. Respawn Entertainment has announced that Titanfall's third DLC expansion, IMC Rising, will launch for Xbox 360 on October 21. The DLC was released for Xbox One and PC in September. IMC Rising, which was announced at Gamescom in August, features three maps--Backwater, Zone 18, and Sandtrap. It follows previously released expansions Frontier's Edge and Expedition. IMC Rising is the third expansion included with the $25 Titanfall DLC pass. Gamers who don't own the pass can buy IMC Rising (or the other two expansions) for $10 each. However, if you know for sure you want all three, the season pass will save you $5. In addition to paid expansions, Respawn continues to support Titanfall with free stability/general improvement updates, while all non-map updates are also free. Now that all scheduled Titanfall DLC has been released, the studio is likely moving its resources onto other projects, such as Titanfall 2, which was greenlit back in March, according to our sources. The game has not been officially announced, though publisher Electronic Arts confirmed in May that Respawn is indeed working on more "Titanfall experiences." 19. Building off the Alien: Isolation hype, Good Old Games is offering a free download of the classic 2000 AvP for 48 hours. Did the recent release of Alien: Isolation stoke your desire for more extraterrestrial adventures? is hoping to scratch that itch with their most recent promotion: you can download Aliens vs. Predator forfree from the company's site. Available until Friday, the classic FPS is also a way for GOG to test their Galaxy multiplayer client. In a press release, GOG VP of online tech wrote, "We're ready to take in more gamers, and AvP seemed like a natural choice: it's high up on our community wishlist, and it's definitely one of the all-time best FPS titles. It also allows for testing Galaxy in a more dynamic environment." The press release notes that "Galaxy testers will soon be able to play AvP with their Steam friends using GOG Galaxy's cross-play feature, as the game is scheduled to receive a dedicated cross-compatibility update on Steam." In addition, GOG announced that they've upped the total number of Linux-compatible titles to 100 with the addition of Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Papers, Please, and others. You can see the full list of Linux compatible games on the GOG website. Add Rep and Leave a feedback Reputation is the green button in the down right corner on my post
  20. The Flame in the Flood coming to PlayStation 4 if funding hits $300,000. Now that The Flame in the Flood has reached its $150,000 Kickstarter funding goal, developer The Molasses Flood has announced some of the game's stretch goals, one of which is a PlayStation 4 version of the survival game. If funding reaches $300,000, the studio will bring the game to PS4, delivering this version sometime after the PC release in 2015. The Molasses Flood, a Cambridge, Mass-based studio made up of former BioShock and Halo developers, did not announce plans to bring The Flame in the Flood to Xbox One or Wii U. However, the studio teased it has "more stretch goals in mind" if funding hits $350,000. Currently, funding for The Flame in the Flood stands at $155,000. Other stretch goals include German, French, and Spanish localization ($175,000); raft customization ($200,000); Russian, Portuguese, and Polish localization ($225,000); and an Endless Mode ($250,000). In The Flame in the Flood, which runs on the Unreal Engine 4, you'll travel by foot and by raft down a procedurally generated river in areas inspired real-life places like the Everglades, the Louisiana Bayou, and the Mississippi Delta. In order to stay alive (the game features permadeath), you'll need to seek out resources, craft tools, escape dangerous wildlife, and stay ahead of downpours of rain. "Your journey has an end. Will you survive long enough to reach it?" reads a line from the game's description. The game also features original music from singer-songwriter Chuck Ragan. 21. Ubisoft is "taking about it," but such a game likely wouldn't be the same as the '80s action movie satire. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon turned out to be a delightful surprise last year, using the core of the very solid Far Cry 3 as the basis for a standalone spinoff game that was free to do something very different--satirize '80s action movies. Something similar could happen with Far Cry 4, but if it does, Ubisoft would like for it "to be surprising." Asked about the possibility of creating another Blood Dragon-style spinoff, Far Cry 4 creative director Alex Hutchinson had an encouraging answer for Red Bull: "We're talking about it… you never know." Blood Dragon, a $15 download-only game released five months after Far Cry 3, sold quite well--within two months it had reached 500,000 sales. (A physical version was later released.) Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said at the time Blood Dragon had also spurred on sales of Far Cry 3 proper, and considering sales of most games taper off not along after launch, that no doubt made the publisher very happy. If Ubisoft decides it does want to offer a standalone spinoff again, it might not offer precisely the same kind of over-the-top, neon-infused style as Blood Dragon. "The goal would be to be surprising, so it wouldn't be another Blood Dragon," Hutchinson said, "but hopefully something equally as odd and left field.†Far Cry 4 launches next month, on November 18, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, andPC. 22. Quincy Jones is set to become a 'Commandeur' of the Order of Arts & Letters by the French Ministry of Culture. Jones' roots in France go back to 1953 when he toured the country as part of Lionel Hampton's band. He later lived in Paris for a number of years studying music composition and orchestration. I accept this distinction with a great deal of appreciation and respect, and I am proud to be mentioned in the illustrious company of my fellow artist who carry this title.' Previous honorees awarded Commander level include Ringo Starr, Bono, Patti Smith, David Bowie and Bob Dylan. Those who have been made Officers, one step lower in the order, include Elton John and Van Morrison. Quincy Jones has received 27 Grammy Awards, second only to Sir Georg Solti on the all-time list. Among his multitude of achievements, he produced Michael Jackson's albums Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad along with the charity song We Are the World. 24. EDSEL Records are proud to announce the release of the first 4 Jesus Jones albums on 17 November, 2014. Now for the first time the band have collaborated, collated and sifted through their personal tape archive to finally tell the full Jesus Jones story. Each release has 2 CD's featuring a fresh remastered version of each album, and a bonus CD of b sides, un-released demos, re-mixes and alternative versions of classic Jesus Jones songs. There's also a DVD featuring many of their famous and classic videos as well as extensive sleeve notes as written by Iain Baker providing a unique and personal insight into one of the most successful UK bands of the 1990's. Debut album, 'Liquidizer' (1989) was the summation of their career up that point and they were inspired by a rich and varied musical range. The Turntable Orchestra were rubbing Napalm death up the wrong way and somewhere in between there was The Kentish Town Bull & Gate, The Shamen, Star Trek, De La Soul, Apocalypse Now and, 'the news and views of 1988/1989'. Iain Baker: 'Liquidizer' was a chance for us to set out our store, to try and get all of our ideas about the amalgamation of rock music and technology into one place. We'd signed a record deal with Food Records at the end of 1988, and they were extremely keen to get an album out as soon as possible. So, the main objective became not to make a grand artistic statement that might take some time, but rather to strike while the iron was still hot.' The sophomore album, 'Doubt' (1990) wasn't really about the second album syndrome. After the success of 'Info Freako' and the endless touring the band established a loyal fanbase and there seemed to be no doubt that great things were just over the horizon. 'Doubt' was about taking advantage of an opportunity: Iain Baker: 'The diktat that came down from our record company Food, was quite simple: they'd put their faith in us, lots of people seemed to see the potential, it was now time to deliver. Food wanted hits; they wanted to turn us into a phenomenon.' 'Perverse' (1993) proved that the band were also visionaries as the first track, 'Zeros And Ones' was about the dawn of digital technology made easily accessible to everybody. The band at this time were also heavily influenced by many new electronic acts like The Aphex Twin, Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin and The Prodigy. The Prodigy did a remix of 'Zeros And Ones': Iain Baker: 'Of all the remixes done for us - this was the one which made us most excited. The breaks, the buzzing riffs - it was pure Prodigy, and we loved it: we were huge fans. We got the tape whilst on tour in the US, and it became the soundtrack to some catastrophically late nights - volume on full, the rear lounge of the tour-bus absolutely rocking as we crossed the States.' 'Perverse' is the album that many long-time Jesus Jones fans rate as their favourite. 'Already' (1997) has a complex history as it was written, recorded and released in the maelstrom of Britpop; all jangly guitars, retro fashion and lowest common denominator attitude. Jesus Jones were always more interested in the options and possibilities of DJ culture; of drum 'n' bass, techno and hardcore. They were a band who stared into the future amazed at the possibilities: Martyn Phillips (Producer): "Already" was made on the cusp between old analogue and newer computer-based recording. We tried fresh techniques. Pro-tools was painfully slow but promised great things.' Jesus Jones are: Mike Edwards - Guitar, Vocals. Jerry Deborg - Guitar, Backing Vocals. Iain Baker - Keyboards, Samples. Alan Doughty - Bass, Backing Vocals. Gen - Drums, Sequences. Add Rep and Leave a feedback Reputation is the green button in the down right corner on my post
  25. Following a complaint from Sony, Warner and Universal, the Italian Communications Regulatory Authority has ordered all local ISPs to block access to the popular torrent tracker Demonoid. The blockade was issued under new regulations which don't require legal overview, a process that may be ruled unconstitutional in the future. After 20 months of downtime the infamous Demonoid BitTorrent tracker came back onlineearlier this year. The site slowly started to rebuild its community and is now getting millions of visitors per month again. At the same time, however, the torrent site is also drawing attention from various copyright holders. On behalf of Sony, Warner and Universal, Italian anti-piracy group FIMI submitted a complaint against Demonoid to the Communications Regulatory Authority (AGCOM) last month. AGCOM is a regulatory body that has the power to order website blockades without court interference, if sites are deemed to be infringing. The labels’ complaint listed several tracks by Italian artists including Laura Pausini, Max Pezzali and Vasco Rossi, which were made available on Demonoid. However, instead of ordering blockades for these infringing works, AGCOM has now instructed ISPs to block the entire website. As a result, Italian Internet subscribers can no longer access Demonoid. TorrentFreak contacted Fulvio Sarzana, a lawyer specialized in Internet and copyright disputes, who told us that the scope of the preliminary injunction is too broad and disproportional. “The order, in my opinion, is not proportional. The Court of Rome repeatedly ruled that blocking orders must be directed only at illegal content, and not the whole site,†Sarzana says. The lawyer refers to a ruling earlier this year, where the Court of Rome recalled a blocking order against the video streaming site The Court argued that partial blocking of a specific URL is preferred over site-wide bans, something that clearly didn’t happen with Demonoid. “Demonoid would do well to contest the measure which appears to be illegitimate,†Sarzana notes, adding that the AGCOM procedures may be unconstitutional. This issue has also been raised by several consumer groups who asked the court to review AGCOM’s legitimacy. Earlier this week the Court of Rome referred these complaints to the Constitutional Court. Here it will be examined whether the current procedure violates right to freedom of expression and free speech, among other things. If AGCOM is indeed deemed to be unconstitutional there’s a good chance that all existing blockades will be lifted. In addition, Sarzana believes that the wrongfully blocked websites may then be entitled to receive compensation for the damages they suffered. However, until a decision from the Constitutional Court arrives AGCOM will continue to operate normally. FIMI is happy with this decision as well as the new blockades against Demonoid. “We are extremely satisfied with this new blocking order and also about the outcome of the decision from the administrative Court of Rome on the regulation,†FIMI’s Enzo Mazza tells TorrentFreak.
