  1. Are you looking forward to The Witcher 3? I certainly am, but not so much that I wanted to extend that feeling of anticipation. Yes, CD Projekt's RPG sequel has been delayed. Again. It's being pushed back a further three months, with the new release date set for May 19, 2015. According to an open letter published by The Board of CD PROJEKT SA, the delay is due to the "sheer size and complexity" of the game. "Now, nearing the end of our work," they write, "we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly." You know what? Yes, I'm a little disappointed, but I can't fault them for wanting to put a better, more robust game in front of their audience. All will be well if, when it does finally release, it proves worth the wait. You can see the full statement below: "Ever since we started working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we knew it would be an ambitious game. We wanted, and still aim, to give you an incredible experience, an epic adventure in a vast, completely open fantasy universe. "The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly. "With this in mind, we took another look at current workloads and what they mean for the team. Even though everyone is working at full speed, we concluded that we need another 12 weeks, so we are shifting the release date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to May 19th, 2015. "We owe you an apology. We set the release date too hastily. It’s a hard lesson, one to take to heart for the future. We know what we want to do to make Wild Hunt one of the best RPGs you will ever play. And we continue to work hard to achieve just that. So, we apologize and ask for your trust. "Thank you for the all support you show us on a daily basis. We truly do appreciate it. It has fueled us in our passion since the start and will continue to do so."
  2. Fox pushes Agent 47's release to August 2015, reportedly due to filmmakers needing more time to complete special effects shots. Homeland's Rupert Friend as Agent 47 in the upcoming movie. Image credit: ScreenrantFox International has delayed the release of upcoming Hitman movie, Agent 47. The Hollywood Reportersays the movie is now scheduled to premiere on August 28, 2015. Previously, it was pegged to hit theaters on February 27, 2015. Image credit: ScreenrantSources said Agent 47's delay was due to producers needing more time to complete its "many special effects shots." The insiders went on to say that Agent 47 "grew in scope" over the course of production, thus needing more time to be finalized. Agent 47 is based on Square Enix's popular game franchise, Hitman. Homeland star Rupert Friend plays Agent 47 himself (taking over for Timothy Olyphant from 2007's Hitman), while Star Trek's Zachary Quinto will play the lead villain in the movie, though details about his character are unknown. Friend replaced actor Paul Walker for the lead role after the Fast and Furious movie star died in a car crash last year. The plot for Agent 47 sees the assassin teaming up with a woman (Hannah Ware) to "help her find her father and uncover the mysteries of her ancestry," according to the report. Well-established commercials director Aleksander Bach is directing the movie. The next major Hitman game is currently in development at IO Interactive, and is making "great progress," the developer said in May. IO Interactive chose not to bring the game to E3 this year because it did not want to "divert valuable resources." On the mobile front, another new Hitman game--focused on sniping--is in development and saw a limited release earlier in October. 3. Developer Evolution Studios apologises as servers buckle under demand. A free PlayStation Plus edition of Driveclub has been delayed across the US and Europe, the game's developer has confirmed. An abridged version of the PlayStation 4 racing title--which is free to PlayStation Plus subscribers--was scheduled to unlock in North America on Tuesday and across Europe on Wednesday, but neither appeared. Now, in a new blog published on DriveClub's official Facebook page, the game's director Paul Rustchynsky explained there will be a delay to the free version. Rustchynsky said the delay is necessary because server problems are affecting the game already. "We are seeing a lot of activity and new social behaviours right now, but unfortunately this is pushing the servers to their absolute limits," he wrote. "We are sorry if you are having a hard time getting online as we know many of you are. Please be aware that the game will automatically keep trying to connect you. Once you're online, you should have no further problems during your session." He explained that the game's developer, Evolution Studios, is working on a number of patches to eliminate the problems. "In order to help all Driveclub players who have the game already, we're temporarily holding back the PS Plus Edition and the My Driveclub app to ease the load and traffic to the servers," he added. "This should give players a better chance of connecting to the game servers." The full, paid-for version of Driveclub released across North America on October 7 and in the UK on October 10. GameSpot's Driveclub review was somewhat disappointed by the game, suggesting it makes no bold advances in the racing genre. To add to Evolution Studio's troubles, players have begun to report problems getting online, being shown instead a "Fault With Your Internet Connection" error code. "To our PS Plus fans, we're sorry you're having to wait longer to play, but we want to ensure that when you come on board, you get the best experience possible," Rustchynsky added. "Rest assured, if you've pre-ordered the full game upgrade from the PS Plus Edition, you will still get the full version of Driveclub digitally, and if you can't get online you'll be able to get started offline like everybody else with single player mode as you start your Driveclub tour. "We fully appreciate how frustrating this is for everyone. We want you to get online with your club because racing, challenging and having fun together is what the game is all about. We know that racing with your friends online is what you’ve been waiting for and we are doing everything we can to deliver that experience to you as soon as possible. "Sorry again for the difficult start. We’ll keep you regularly updated on our progress as we work round the clock to improve connectivity." 4. Fox moves upcoming movie out a year as it confirms plans to make a Deadpool film with Ryan Reynolds. The upcoming Assassin's Creed movie, from 20th Century Fox and starring Michael Fassbender, will not arrive in theaters in August 2015 as previously expected. The movie has now shifted to sometime in 2016, according to a details from The Hollywood Reporter. The site's sources say the movie's scripts has gone through "several rewrites" and the production itself has "grappled with scheduling issues." Fassbender will play the lead role in the film, which will be directed by Justin Kurzel, who directed Fassbender in next year's Macbeth. No other cast members have been announced. Talking about the movie last month, Fassbender said Assassin's Creed picture will be respectful of the game, no doubt a nice thing to hear for fans of the franchise. At the same time, however, Fassbender pointed out that "we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own vision of things that already exist in the game." The announcement of the movie's delay was made in conjunction with the news that Fox is moving forward on a Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds. Ubisoft has a total of six movies in the pipeline. In addition to Assassin's Creed, the French publisher is making movies based on its Far Cry, Rabbids, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon franchises. In all instances, Ubisoft will retain creative control. Two new Assassin's Creed games are due out on November 11: Assassin's Creed Unity for Xbox One,PlayStation 4, and PC; and Assassin's Creed Rogue for Xbox 360 and PS3. 5. A leaked copy of Expendables 3 was made available to 'pirate' release groups mid-July, TF has learned. Concerned at the nature of the leak, a release was shied away from, but a small public torrent uploaded by a fairly low profile Pirate Bay user changed all that. Last week saw the leak online of the brand new Expendables movie. Earmarked for an August 15 U.S. release, Expendables 3leaked in near DVD quality a full two weeks ahead. The timing and quality combined to make the leak one of the most prominent in recent years. While the original sources of these leaks are nearly always shrouded in mystery, once made publicly available on sites like The Pirate Bay they are anyone’s for download. Originally it was believed that Pirate Bay releaser Drarbg uploaded the first public torrent, but that was not the case. Flying under the radar a hugely less popular torrent (still only with a handful of seeds) actually preceded it by almost 20 minutes. It’s certainly feasible that another release preceded even this one, but with torrents on sites other than Pirate Bay regularly deleted due to copyright complaints, it’s now too late for any certainty. It’s also impossible to say how many people were in the chain after the leak and before the first public torrent upload, but numerous public sources (including RARBG themselves) are now pointing to postings on 4chan as indicating the start of events. The thread is right here and obviously everything happened in public. The postings don’t specifically mention the title of the movie but a source close to the situation assures TF that the chat does indeed refer to The Expendables 3. Less than two hours after his initial posting on July 15, ‘Anonymous’ was back on 4chan with an update. “I am in contact with a release group that works with private trackers. They asked me for proof of what I had and I took pictures with a written timestamp of the disc in and out of the box,†he wrote. “I dumped them into some special submission link they had and they will get back to me. I’m just waiting in a secured IRC room for them to get back to me once the staff takes a look.†Precisely what happened after then is a mystery (as is the leaker’s apparent disregard for security by posting in public) but a source informs TF that whoever obtained the copy knew they had something hot – perhaps too hot. “We know that the leak was back then, around July 15, but everyone was scared to leak it. Most private groups had it for more than 10 days, but again they were scared to leak it,†TF was told. After the leaked copy was allegedly handed over July 15, the comments of ‘Anonymous’ as he returned to 4chan predicted the events of last Thursday. “Keep an eye out for the leak. No telling how long this will take, but I’m sure it will make its way to public trackers due to the demand for it,†he wrote. Interestingly, although initial demand for The Expendables 3 was brisk, downloads now sit at an estimated 500,000, and it’s currently less popular on file-sharing networks than “Divergent†which was released on the same day.
  6. Kim Dotcom has been told that his extradition hearing will be delayed once again. The Megaupload founder will now have to wait until at least February 2015 to discover his fate, not during the next few weeks as planned. The United States Government is keen to get its hands on Kim Dotcom. He stands accused of committing the biggest copyright-related crime ever seen through his now-defunct cloud storage site Megaupload. But their access to the entrepreneur will have to wait. According to Dotcom, his extradition hearing has now been delayed until February 16, 2015. Delays and postponements have become recurring features of the criminal case being built against Dotcom in the United States. A March 2013 date came and went without a promised hearing, as did another in November the same year, a delay which Dotcom said would “save Prime Minister John Key embarrassment during an election campaign.†Another hearing date for April 2014 also failed to materialize and now the date penciled in for the coming weeks has also been struck down. Dotcom also reports that he still hasn’t received a copy of the data that was unlawfully sent to the FBI by New Zealand authorities.
  7. Disney Enterprises, Inc. UPDATED: Producer Jerry Bruckheimer reveals script issues behind the move, which follows the summer flop "The Lone Ranger": “We’re supposed to start [shooting] in March and you start spending a lot of money now.†The next installment in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will be delayed beyond its planned summer 2015 release date, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. PHOTOS: Big Stars, Big Bombs: A-Listers Fall Victim to Summer Box Office Flops Producer Jerry Bruckheimer says the decision to push Pirates of Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which is set to return Johnny Depp to the Capt. Jack Sparrow role, was made because of script issues. He is hopeful that the film can be ready for summer 2016. “We have an outline everyone loves but the script is not done,†Bruckheimer revealed in an exclusive interview with THR. The move comes in the aftermath of The Lone Ranger's failure at the box office this summer. Disney has said that the $250 million-plus production from the team behind the Pirates movies could lead to a $190 million write down for the studio. Asked whether the potential price tag of the next Pirates film played a role in the delay, Bruckheimer replies, “It’s all a factor. We want a script that everyone’s signed off on and a budget that everyone’s signed off on.†(Such projects have cost as much as $300 million in the past.) Coming up with a great script is “always hard,†Bruckheimer says, and after this summer, “everybody’s more cautious.†The summer saw several costly movies underperform. Disney now hopes to keep the cost of the fifth Pirates movie under $200 million — a goal the studio is unlikely to meet. But bringing in Kon-Tiki directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, who made their film on the water for a price, should help keep costs down. Nonetheless, industry observers have anticipated a tough negotiation between Disney and Bruckheimer, given the size of the Lone Ranger write down. PHOTOS: Johnny Depp's Life and Career in Pictures Bruckheimer says it was necessary to push the project because “we’re supposed to start in March and you start spending a lot of money now.†According to the producer, the Pirates filmmakers weren’t happy with screenwriter Jeff Nathanson’s initial script, and he’s now at work on a second attempt based on the well-received outline. But Bruckheimer asks, “How do you budget an outline?†A source says the studio thought the original Nathanson script "was too expensive but it was also really complicated and hard to follow." Asked whether he’s still confident that the project will come together, Bruckheimer says, “With any movie, you’re never confident. But it’s a billion-dollar franchise.†The last Pirates movie, 2011’s On Stranger Tides, grossed $1.04 billion Disney is flush with product so the studio is not pressuring for a start. And the summer of 2015 already is packed with major films, including Warner Bros.' tentatively-titled Batman vs. Superman, set to open one week after Pirates' original July 17 date. Disney's schedule for 2015 still includes Star Wars: Episode VII, another Avengers movie and a Pixar film, Inside Out.
