  3. 4K Blu-ray is officially on the way. According to Victor Matsuda, Chairman of the Blu-ray Disc Association Global Promotions Committee, the BDA expects the specs for 4K Blu-ray to be finalized in the first half of 2015, paving the way for commercial availability by the end of the year. This means we can expect to see actual 4K Blu-ray movies and players available in stores by Christmas next year. Apart from the jump to 4K resolution (3840 × 2160p) we can also expect 4K Blu-ray to support higher frame rates (up to 60fps), an expanded color gamut along with high dynamic range (HDR), as well as HEVC/H.265 encoding to compress 4K movies more efficiently and allow for higher bit rates. The group is currently exploring the possibility of increasing the disc capacity to 66GB or 100GB. The news was confirmed by representatives on the show floor at IFA 2014 in Berlin, which opened its doors to visitors today. 4K movies will be coming to Blu-ray discs and hard drives.

  6. Square Enix is continuously looking for new eager people to work on their next blockbuster release, Final Fantasy XV. Now they have opened a position for an online game planner who will be part in making of a huge online world. Required skills for the job are positive attitude, great motivation and knowledge of Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Other desired skills are experience of online management, game production, general management, game system designing and interests in PC gaming. Being a gamer is a a bonus too. The job summary also explains more about Final Fantasy XV and its groundbreaking technology, but doesn’t go into details too much. So, what could this be? Since the job offer seems to be related to PC environments, it’s possible they are planning some sort of mini games which are playable on browsers. It’s also possible that they are developing unannounced online features to Final Fantasy XV, but that’s just our speculation. Possibilities that we will never hear about this are also high because this could be a concept, which will be cancelled eventually.
  7. Still no word on a North American release. Sony will launch a Grand Theft Auto V PlayStation 4 bundle in Japan on December 11, according to the company's website. The price listed for the bundle is 44,980 Yen, which is around $415. Earlier this month, we saw a GTA V bundle appear on Amazon's Germany, Italy, and Spain websites, which all list a release of November 18 for €449.99 (about $573). Developer Rockstar Games and Sony have yet to announce similar bundle for North America. We've contacted both companies for comment and will update this story with anything we hear back. Grand Theft Auto V comes to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on November 18. The PC version is scheduled to launch in January 2015. The open-world game has already shipped more than 34 million copies. Rockstar Games also recently announced that it's releasing a 720p version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for Xbox 360, with enhanced draw distance and Achievement support. 8. Leaked achievement list suggests Rockstar may be re-releasing the 2004 game for Xbox 360. Rockstar confirmed this rumor today through a posting on their support site. "GTA: San Andreas on the Xbox Marketplace will be available again for purchase beginning October 26th, 2014, through Games on Demand. This version features 720p resolution, enhanced draw distance, and Achievement support." If you purchased the game previously, Rockstar notes: "The Games on Demand version of San Andreas is not compatible with the Xbox Originals version. Save files will not transfer from Xbox Originals. Owners of the Xbox Originals version will still have access to the old version on their consoles and through their download history, with the option to purchase the new version to experience the added features on a new save file." The original story appears below. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas may soon be re-released for Xbox 360, a new set of Achievements suggests. Developer Rockstar Games has not announced a new version of the game for Xbox 360, butXbox Achievements has posted a new list of achievements that seem to indicate a re-release is in the works. In addition, the Xbox Originals version of San Andreas is oddly no longer available to download for Xbox 360--though it remains available to buy for PlayStation 3. On top of that, October 2014 marks the game's tenth anniversary, which would be a fitting time for such a re-release, if it were to happen. San Andreas was released in October 2004 for PlayStation 2, though the game has since come to platforms such as Xbox, PC, Mac, and various mobile devices. We have contacted Rockstar for comment, and will update this story with anything we hear back. Grand Theft Auto V comes to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on November 18. The PC version is scheduled to launch in January 2015. The open-world game has already shipped more than 34 million copies. 11. Plus, Game Clips can now be published on Twitter; Trending stats added to TV guide. Microsoft has outlined numerous improvements, additions and changes coming to Xbox One via its monthly system update. The main attraction for November is the new personalisation features, which allow users to create a customised background. The corporation adds that this was the "number one requested feature" from fans. This comes weeks after the Xbox head, Phil Spencer, pledged to add custom theme support to Xbox One systems. Though the new update is a stepping-stone on that path, Microsoft said that "more customisation options" would arrive later. See directly below for a trio of preview images: Gamers who have enlisted with the Xbox One preview program should be able to access the update now. Other additions to the November update include the option to attach a "flaunt reel" to your profile. Users can display six video snippets of their gaming feats, which others can watch when browsing profiles. Further to this, and in what could be a coup for Microsoft as it competes with Sony for relevance on social media, the Xbox One can now publish game clips directly to Twitter. 12. Latest patch released in bid to further enhance online stability. Evolution Studios, the games developer that has been working frantically to solve the server problems that has marred the release of Driveclub, says the free version of the game will be available as soon as possible. Prior to the release of the PlayStation 4 racing game, Evolution and Sony had agreed to release a free abridged version of the game to PS Plus subscribers. However, due to major server problems affecting the game, coupled with the likelihood that a surge of new players would make matters worse, Sony decided to postpone the PS Plus edition. But on Monday Evolution Studios claimed it had begun to gain ground in restoring full online services for the racing title, and four days later it has released another update (1.04) which it hopes will bolster online stability even further. "More servers and new upgrades are still coming online hour-by-hour, so we expect improvements to server connectivity and reliability for everyone," the studio wrote on its Facebook page. "Essential diagnostics are still running periodically (for the next 12 hours) to help us continue to improve server performance," it added. "We are still also working hard to get the PS Plus Edition of Driveclub out as soon as possible and hope to update you on this soon." The studio has apologised on several occasions for the downtime, and hasn't ruled out compensating those affected by the problems. 13. Nintendo shares one way to get an access code for the demo and reveals some of the games' new Pokemon. A month before they go on sale, the remakes of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire will be getting a demo, Nintendo announced today along with details on some of the special Pokemon you'll encounter in the full games. We'd previously heard that a demo was coming which would allow you to transfer certain progress toPokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby. Now we know it's coming next Tuesday, October 21, with the absurdly long title of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Special Demo Version. Nintendo still isn't saying exactly what the demo will entail, only that it offers "a glimpse of the adventure coming on November 21." This demo won't be freely available on the eShop, as most demos are; instead, you'll need a special code. One way to guarantee yourself a code is to have a free Pokemon Trainer Club account and opt to be on the mailing list for the Pokemon Trainer Club Newsletter. You can sign up for that at, though Nintendo says there will be others ways of receiving a code, too, should you not want to fill your inbox with Pokemon emails. Aside from the demo talk, Nintendo also today offered some information on the specific Pokemon you'll be catching in next month's remakes. This includes the availability of two new Mega-evolved Pokemon, Mega Pidgeot and Mega Beedrill, as well as Mega Latios and Mega Latias. The latter two are each exclusive to one of the remakes: You'll need a copy of Omega Ruby to catch Latias, or Alpha Sapphire for Latios. In both cases, you'll have to obtain what's called an Eon Ticket. Details on doing so haven't been shared, but having one will allow you to visit a certain region in the game that offers your only chance of catching either Pokemon. Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby will be released for 3DS on November 21 in North America and November 28 in Europe. Neither game supports Nintendo's new Amiibo figures, though producer Junichi Masuda is interested in them. Masuda also recently explained to us why the series has become easier over time. For more on the remakes, check out our full rundown on exactly what's new in them. Add Rep and Leave a feedback Reputation is the green button in the down right corner on my post
  14. One of the toughest characters in video games gets the action figure treatment. Step aside, Evolve's monster and Titanfall's Titan figures. One of the toughest characters in video games,The Walking Dead's Clementine, is getting her own action figure as well. Announced today at Telltale's The Walking Dead panel at the New York City Comic-Con, the Clementine action figure is a collaboration between Telltale Games, comic publishing imprint Skybound, McFarlane Toys. You can check out the detail work on the Clem figure in the image gallery above. It will be available in both clean and bloodsplattered versions. Telltale recently announced that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the first and second seasons of The Walking Dead will arrive in October at retailers and digitally. Physical versions of The Walking Dead season two are also coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 21 (disc versions of the first season are already available), while a PlayStation Vita retail version of season two will launch November 4. In addition to the third season of The Walking Dead, Telltale is working on Tales from the Borderlands with Gearbox Software and a Game of Thrones project.
  15. Late-night talk show host and Clueless Gamer Conan O'Brien and characters from the TV show "Arrow" will appear in the upcoming LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. According to Polygon, Game Director Arthur Parsons announced at the New York City Comic-Con that Conan will appear in the game as kind of guide, who will introduce players to different aspects of the world. Developer TT Games also revealed one of the upcoming DLC packs for the game, which will be based on the "Arrow" TV show. It will of course add the Green Arrow himself, Oliver Queen, as a playable character, but also Huntress, Black Canary, John Diggle, and others. Developer TT Games previously announced three out of a total of six DLC packs included in the game's season pass. The Dark Knight Pack, Man of Steel Pack, and Batman 75th Pack will all be available at launch. In Europe, PlayStation owners will also get exclusive DLC based on the "Batman of the Future" animated series, or "Batman Beyond" as it's known in North America. LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham will be the first game to get a Season Pass for its DLC. It releases November 14 on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita, Wii U, 3DS and PC, but the Season Pass will not be available on Wii U, 3DS, and PS Vita. 16. Studio head Evan Wells says the PlayStation 4 game is "coming along nicely" and teases an imminent reveal. Developer Naughty Dog is planning to show off more of PlayStation 4 game Uncharted 4: A Thief's End"very soon," according to co-president, Evan Wells. Wells offered the tease as part of a wide-ranging interview with GameCrate about Naughty Dog's 30-year legacy. "It’s coming along nicely," Wells said about Uncharted 4. "We've been hard at work since E3 and all I can say is that we'll be having some stuff to show you very soon." The interviewer followed this up by asking, "How soon?" Wells replied: "Very." Uncharted 4 was announced back in December 2013. Naughty Dog has released a pair of teaser trailers for the title (as well as some concept art and a close-up of Nathan Drake), but we have not seen any gameplay footage yet. The game is expected to launch sometime in 2015 running at 1080p/60fps, and it could beaccompanied by Uncharted remasters for PS4. Concerning Uncharted 4's story, Naughty Dog said previously that it will tell a "more personal" story that delves into who hero Nathan Drake is a person. "It's his greatest adventure yet and will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he's willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves," Naughty Dog said in June about the game. The game also promises to be an "edge-of-your-seat" roller coaster ride. Add Rep and Leave a feedback Reputation is the green button in the down right corner on my post
  17. Future updates will introduce option to visually renovate the console operating system. Monthly scheduled updates to Xbox One will soon add custom themes, backgrounds and wallpapers the system's dashboard, the head of Xbox Phil Spencer has said."I was told themes and background pics are something that we are working on and screenshots, you know people beat me up on screenshots," Spencer said on a recent Inner Circle podcast. He added: "The team has done a great job with the monthly updates, some of the things are just a prioritisation and are a time in development. But I know that people like to customize the look of their dash." No firm date or timeline was given on the addition of theme support for Xbox One, though Spencer pledged that they would arrive eventually. "I think both themes, backgrounds and screenshots are things I know people want so we are going to deliver on them. But we can’t give a when yet." Further to this, a spokesperson for Microsoft told IGN that theme support will be introduced in future monthly updates. "We’ve been carefully listening to your feedback and look forward to delivering many of those features and more as part of our regular Xbox One system updates," reads a statement form the company. "We look forward to sharing more details in the future."

  20. Apple continues to figure out more and more ways to push its digital voice assistant on its current customer base. When Siri was introduced for the iPhone 4S in 2011 (the “S†stood for “Siri,†then), “she†(only female) was considered to be a fun experiment for the company. At the same time, users that played around with Siri found her to be underwhelming and unable to process the most basic tasks. When Google Now arrived on Android, most tech analysts decided that Google Now’s abilities were far greater than Siri’s. What most tech analysts didn’t tell you then (and most won’t now) is that Google Now’s “personality†lacks when lined up against Siri. For all the amazing information you get, you get a “subordinate†with Google Now, not an assistant that you can see as your equal. Siri is more of an “assistantâ€; Google Now, on the other hand, is a subordinate: it does what you ask, but has no jokes, stories, or funny expressions. In some sense, Google Now is underwhelming when stacked up against Apple’s Siri. Well, Apple hasn’t given up on its voice command – as the company continues to expand Siri’s presence across its entire iOS experience. First, Siri arrived on the iPhone, followed by the iPad. Now, if a new patent is correct, Apple looks to bring Siri (now with both male and female voices) to the Mac this Fall. The US Patent titled Intelligent Digital Assistant in a Desktop Environment, is designed to bring Siri to Apple’s laptop PC experience, seeing that Siri is already available on its mobile devices. Of particular note is Apple’s expectation that Siri will enhance or highlight MacBook capabilities above both the iPhone and iPad: “Most desktop, laptop, and tablet computer operating systems support user interface interactions across multiple windows and/or applications (e.g., copy and paste operations, drag and drop operations, etc.), and parallel processing of multiple tasks. Most desktop, laptop, and tablet computers…support more complex and sophisticated interactions and functionalities than many small mobile devices. The integration of an at least partially voice-controlled intelligent digital assistant into a desktop, laptop, and/or tablet computer environment provides additional capabilities to the digital assistant, and enhances the usability and capabilities of the desktop, laptop, and/or tablet computer.†While it’s always the case that Apple could file this patent and never bring it to light, we have a feeling that Apple wouldn’t do that with its important digital voice assistant, considering that Siri is already such a vital part of iOS. We don’t see the company creating an iOS/OS X hybrid device or operating system, but we do see Apple expanding Siri across all of its mobile devices – and expanding Siri’s capabilities over time. Apple expanded Siri’s capabilities in iOS 7, allowing her to not only set alarms and reminders, but to even turn on/off Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, play music, read text message, show missed calls, set a timer, show tweets from Twitter, update your Twitter status, find meeting notes, play your voicemail messages, activate games, launch photos, make reservations, provide up-to-date weather information, convert currency, Google a search term, FaceTime a contact, and so much more. Also, Apple will unveil the iPhone 6 on September 9th, sources say. We’ve heard that iWatch is on the way, and will continue to wait for more evidence.
  21. One thing that’s very clear about how Disney handles their big franchises is that they are looking for multiple platforms to increase brand recognition, exposing a wide number of people to their properties. Obviously, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the forthcoming Star Wars sequel trilogy are the priorities, but the studio has looked to the small screen for new opportunities as well. Marvel is launching a new live-action series in the form of Agent Carter, which was teased at the Marvel TV panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2014. Now, they’re adding to their animation branch with the announcement that a Guardians of the Galaxy animated series is going to be making its debut on Disney XD (the same network that will air Star Wars Rebels). Marvel Animation confirmed the project during their panel at Comic-Con this past weekend (hat tip to Deadline for the report). Rumors of a Guardians of the Galaxy cartoon series have been around for several months now; between this news and the confirmation from Marvel Studios that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will arrive in 2017, it’s safe to say that Marvel is confident that the first Guardians movie will prove to be a box office success. The Guardians of the Galaxy film adaptation, of course, hits theaters this Friday and the IP is poised to become the next big series for the studio. After the trailers teased genre thrills, zany humor, and Star Wars-esque space opera, the anticipation and hype seems to be justified. Early reviews have stated that James Gunn’s outing in the Marvel Universe is quite special; on the whole, it’s fair to say that the Marvel company believes strongly in the project now. With Guardians set to become a key priority for Marvel moving forward, it makes sense that they would look towards other avenues to raise awareness (the comic book is rather obscure, after all). An animated series will no doubt appeal to younger fans (i.e. children) who don’t necessarily fall into the film’s PG-13 demographic. Attracting a vital segment of the marketplace will not only lead to increased ticket sales, but also a higher level of interest in the merchandise (especially toys) that will showcase Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and space action. While there’s no air date for the Guardians animated show, it will become part of Marvel Animation’s ever-expanding roster of programming in the near future. That lineup currently includes Avengers Assemble and Hulk and Agents of S.M.A.S.H. which are both entering their second seasons on Disney XD this fall. Illustrating the synergy between platforms, that second season of S.M.A.S.H. will tie into characters from the Guardians movie, giving older Marvel fans reason to tune in with their little ones. 22. When the Popcorn Time app brought BitTorrent streaming to the masses this year the "Netflix for pirates" gained the hearts of millions. Today, one of the most popular Popcorn Time forks continues to innovate by adding Airplay support, and a native iOS app is coming soon. The Popcorn Time phenomenon is one of the biggest piracy stories of the year thus far. The software became an instant hit by offering BitTorrent-powered streaming in an easy-to-use Netflix-style interface. While the original app was shut down by the developers after a few weeks, the project was quickly picked up by others. This resulted in several popular forks that have gained millions of users in recent months. Today one of the most popular Popcorn Time forks releases a highly anticipated feature. The developers inform TorrentFreak that the latest version now has Airplay support, making it possible to stream movies directly to Apple TVs and other supported devices. Ironically, Airplay support is currently limited to the Windows release, but a Mac version is due early next week and the Linux release will follow shortly after. The latest feature follows the addition of Chromecast support a few weeks ago, but this is by no means the last planned development. Popcorn Time adds Airplay support Looking ahead the developers hope to bring the Popcorn Time experience to as many operating systems and devices as possible. “Our ultimate goal is to bring Popcorn Time to every platform, operating system and device that can play videos, so Airplay is one particle of a huge revolution we’re making to the torrents and movies world online,†the team told us. “This is only the beginning… You know us, we have many more surprises coming your way,†they add. One of the “surprises†is a native iOS app. Although it probably won’t be featured in Apple’s App Store anytime soon, Popcorn Time will be available on jailbroken iPhones and iPads in the near future. “Support for iOS devices will be ready in August. It’s already working in our development environment and it’s looking beautiful,†the team notes. Popcorn Time’s popularity hasn’t gone unnoticed by Hollywood. A few weeks ago the MPAA pushed back and managed to get two popular forks removed from Githubclaiming that the apps are hurting the major movie studios. While this was a setback, it doesn’t seem to have hindered development much. Both Popcorn Time forks are still around and new features are being rolled out faster than ever.
  23. Though anticipation for Gotham is high, there are challenges facing it as it tries to establish its own separate corner in the burgeoning DC television universe. Blessed with the enviable Batman rogues gallery, there is much potential, but without the use of Batman, Gothamwill have to establish a bond with the audience through the eyes of a hero (Jim Gordon) who has always been more of an ancillary character, even as played by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. A trilogy that presents another challenge. Audiences have been spoiled rotten by Nolan’s vision of Gotham City, and when the Gotham series starts up, some may judge it harshly against the look of the films. Really, it’s an unfair comparison because one simply can’t match the visual “wow†factor of Wally Pfister’s cinematography on the small screen. But while Gotham can’t look like the Nolan films, it can certainly carry over elements of that visual identity and the feel that the Nolan films had and, in this moment in time, FOX can also present the show to fans in a way that makes it feel cinematic with a new trailer. Beginning with a green and white ratings screen that tells us that the trailer has been approved for all lawful residents of Gotham City, this latest look at Gothamdoesn’t look that much different than a lot of the other trailers we’ve seen, but there is just a little bit more intensity thanks to the way the footage is edited together. At this point, I imagine most of us could close our eyes and see some amalgamation of all the times that we have seen Thomas and Martha Wayne being murdered and it would look something like what will be shown on Gotham. Besides that, we get a better idea about the hard time that Gordon will face in the series, the ambition of Jada Pinkett Smith’s Fish Mooney and young Bruce Wayne’s developing issues. Is this approach indicative of how the show itself will be presented when it premieres? Right now we don’t know, but we expect that we’ll soon start seeing reactions from the masses after Gotham screens its pilot for the assembled fans at Comic-Con in Hall H tonight during the Warner Bros. TV panel. Gotham premieres on Monday, September 22nd, 2014 @8pm on Fox.
  24. The comic book movie world was shocked late last week when it was revealed that director Edgar Wright and Marvel Studios would no longer be working together on the 2015 superhero blockbuster Ant-Man. In the days since, we've read many reports and heard plenty of speculation as to exactly what happened between the filmmaker and the studio, but in the mind's of many fans the big question isn't about what has happened, but instead what will happen. Is Ant-Man still going to be made in time for next summer? If the most recent trade reports are to believed, the answer is yes. In their full report about the Edgar Wright/Ant-Man story, The Hollywood Reporter peppers in details saying that the comic book movie is still on schedule and that Marvel expects the finished product to be ready in time for the set release date on July 17, 2015. The studio is still searching for a filmmaker to take Wright's place and they must also replace some production department heads that left when it was revealed that filming wouldn't begin on schedule, but the plan is still to have the feature ready to come out just a few months after Joss Whedon's The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Paul Rudd is still attached to play Scott Lang, but THR doesn't mention the status of any of the other actors who were previously announced for the project, including Michael Douglas (who is playing Hank Pym), Evangeline Lilly, Patrick Wilson, and Michael Pena. Recapping exactly what went down between Edgar Wright and Marvel, THR's sources also basically confirmed the reports that came out this past weekend. As the story goes, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige wasn't happy with the Ant-Man script that had been written by Wright and Joe Cornish. He authorized a rewrite done to be done without the director's input, and upon learning about and receiving the revisions, Wright decided to walk away from the project. It's a pretty stunning development considering that the Shaun of the Dead filmmker had been attached to Ant-Man since 2006. If Ant-Man is actually going to hit its announced release date next summer, then we can probably expect to hear some very big news about the film soon. Who will they be able to get who could pick up from where Edgar Wright left off and work fast enough to get the movie ready on schedule? We're very excited to learn the answer and should have one in the next couple of weeks. For now, read about our suggestions for the gig and tell us what you're thinking in the comments section below.
